Those writing gestures are generally better for children to practice calligraphy.

There are various writing postures, and using different postures to write will have different effects. The correct posture can enable the writer to perform normally; on the contrary, it will inevitably hinder the writer's performance. So, how to determine the writing posture? What posture to adopt should be determined based on factors such as the length, form, and word size of the work. Writing postures can generally be divided into three categories: sitting, standing, and squatting.

The correct sitting posture can be summarized in eight words: head upright, body straight, arms open, and feet secure.

1. The key to opening and closing the arms is to naturally open the two arms and make the angle between the big and small arms beyond 90°, so that the four joints of the fingers, wrists, elbows and shoulders can cooperate easily and harmoniously, and the body's strength can be smoothly transmitted to the pen tip;

 2. To achieve the above requirements, you must sit as upright and upright as possible. The distance between your chest and the edge of the table is about 3 inches (adjust the distance appropriately according to the size of the words you are writing). Do not lean against the table or bend over;

3. Head upright The head is upright and slightly bent forward. It cannot be skewed to ensure a moderate viewing angle, and the distance between the eyes and the paper should be roughly kept at 30-40 cm. While pressing the paper with your left hand, adjust the position of the paper so that the words you are writing are always within the optimal range of your eyes and hands.

4. Foot safety: Place your feet naturally flat and bend your legs flat. The feet are parallel or slightly forward and backward, and the legs cannot be crossed (commonly known as Erlang legs).

There are differences in writing in the sitting posture, such as pillowing the wrist, hanging the wrist, and cantilevering the arm.

Wrist pillow is a method of writing with the wrist of the writer resting on the table or the back of the left hand. There are also bamboo pieces called "arm rests" used to rest the hands, which are generally used in summer, because summer is easy to sweat, and the sweat on the hands can easily make the paper wet. Use the pillow-wrist method to write calligraphy. Because the wrist is resting on the table and the hand is very stable, it is suitable for writing small regular script or one-inch square Chinese regular script. However, it is also difficult to move because the wrist is resting. If you write larger characters, you have to write with a hanging wrist

Wrist hanging, that is, the writing method in which the wrist holding the pen is suspended away from the table while the elbow and arm are still leaning on the table. In this method, the range of movement of the wrist is larger than that of the pillow-wrist method, and the arm and elbow joints are still leaning on the table, which is still relatively stable, and can write large regular characters of two to three inches. If you write couplets or large characters, you must use the hanging elbow method to write. ?

Cantilever, cantilevered elbow is the writing posture in which the arm is suspended in the air when the right hand is holding the pen. The range of movement is large. In this method, because the arm is not leaning on the table, there is no obstruction, and you can write freely, no matter writing big characters, Small characters are suitable for writing, it is the best way to write, and it is also a method commonly used by calligraphers. Mi Fu, a great calligrapher in the Song Dynasty, even used the hanging elbow method to write small regular script characters, which shows how profound his skill was. Of course, beginners don't need to do this. ?

When writing in the sitting position, it is generally suitable to write smaller characters within two inches, such as small regular script, Jin people's running script, Tang people's regular script, etc. In the initial stage of practicing calligraphy, because you are not familiar with the performance of the calligraphy brush, you can first use the hanging wrist method to write regular script two to three inches square. After a period of practice, after you have a slight grasp of the calligraphy, your hands will gradually Once you're done, you can practice using the hanging elbow method. Of course, it will be difficult to suddenly hang all the arms in the air. Your hands will be numb and painful, but it will be solved as long as you persist. It can be as fast as one week and as slow as one month. If you are afraid of pain at the beginning, or if you see that your handwriting is not as good as when you rest your wrist on your wrist, and you still put your arm back on the table, you may not be able to hang your arm up for the rest of your life. ?

Finger movement, wrist movement and elbow movement?

Writing calligraphy is completed with coordinated movements of fingers, wrists or elbows. To complete the writing of stipples purely by moving your fingers is called "finger movement". The movement of the wrist to complete stroke writing is called "wrist movement". The coordinated movement of arms and elbows to complete stroke writing is called "elbow movement".

?

When writing Xiaokai or Cunkai (one-inch square regular script), the wrist (the movable part where the base of the hand is connected to the lower end of the arm) is placed on the table, and the thumb and index finger holding the pen are both slanted. Next to the pen, the palm should be as erect as possible, with the back of the hand and the table forming an angle of 70 or 80 degrees. The ancients called it "off-flat palm erection". The index finger and thumb holding the pen form a flat "phoenix eye" shape. Circle, this writing method is called "phoenix eye". When writing big words that are two to three inches square, you cannot use the pillow-wrist method to write. ?

Then the range of finger movement is very small and it is impossible to write large regular characters. Secondly, if the finger is moved to a large extent, the pen will fall over. This will cause the pen to be diseased and the wrist should be used to write. ?

In the wrist movement method, the wrist must be suspended, the palm of the hand should be relaxed naturally, and the back of the hand and the table should be at an angle of about 45 degrees. If you are writing larger characters, use the hanging wrist method, because it is easy to write crookedly when writing vertical paintings with your elbows resting on the table. Therefore, when writing large characters, your arms must be raised. Even if you are writing two or three-inch square regular script, practicing with your arms hanging is quite beneficial. When writing large characters, not only do the arms have to be suspended, but also the person has to stand up to write. At this time, the palm of the hand holding the pen should also be gently relaxed, and the back of the hand and the arm should be in a plane, parallel to the tabletop. The ancients called it "flat-covering style". At this time, the wrist is completely let go and can move left and right up and down freely and flexibly. When writing large characters, it is completed by combining elbow movement and wrist movement. ?

Except for small regular script, we do not agree to purely use finger movements to write calligraphy. Some people practice writing Chinese regular script with their elbows hanging. Although their arms and wrists are suspended, they are still in a static and rigid state. They still use their fingers to complete writing, and the pen barrel tilts seriously. This loses the meaning of hanging elbows. When hanging elbows, you should move your fingers as little as possible, and focus on wrist and elbow movements. It is worth mentioning that the penholder does not always have to be perpendicular to the paper. During the writing process, the penholder can tilt slightly naturally, but the amplitude should be small. Generally, the penholder should always remain vertical when writing regular script.

 ?

The standing posture is to allow the wrist to move flexibly. At the same time, because it is condescending and has a wide perspective, it is easy to see the overall situation and master the organization and presentation. The specific requirements for the standing posture are: two feet slightly apart, one foot slightly forward, maintaining a good balance of the body, the upper body slightly bent forward, the waist slightly bowed, the distance should not be too far, the left hand presses the paper, and the right hand hangs the wrist and elbow to write . It is worth noting that the desktop should not be too low to avoid excessive bending and fatigue. This posture is suitable for writing words larger than two inches.

Squatting position, squatting on the ground, feet slightly wider than shoulder width, left hand pressing the paper, right hand cantilevered to hold the pen, usually written in the open space of a large hall, easy to grasp the entire chapter, this posture is suitable For large-format works (you can step on the work when writing large-format works).

Based on my many years of teaching experience, I recommend writing in a standing posture, which is the best practice for students. The effect is also the best.
