The Original Calligraphy of Tang Bohu Main Hall

Tang Bohu was a famous poet, painter and calligrapher in Ming Dynasty. He is known as "one of the four great talents in Jiangnan". In film and television dramas, we often see Tang Bohu outsmart the traitors and win the beauty. A poem "Peach Blossom Temple", which reads "Others laugh at me for being too crazy, but I laugh at others for not being able to see through it. There is no hero's tomb in the five tombs, no flowers, no wine and no hoes for farming", has been spread to this day and is deeply loved by people.

However, the real Tang Bohu in history is not as charming as in movies and TV plays, but elegant and natural. However, his fate was ill-fated, especially in his political career. After he failed in the senior high school entrance examination in Beijing, he returned to his hometown and often faced ridicule from relatives and friends, even his wife sneered at him. So Tang Bohu, after suffering endless discrimination and insults, began to lead a life of lead a drunken life, often wandering in major brothels. Because of his brilliance, he often makes a living by selling calligraphy and painting. People rushed to ask him to write poems and paint.

Once, in his hometown of Suzhou Nanzhili, the magistrate of a county built two new toilets in his yard. On a whim, the county magistrate posted red couplets in front of two toilets to show the uniqueness of their toilet lids. So he asked his teachers and scholars to think about what connection was just right. Men shake their heads frequently. They have never heard of any new toilet couplets. When the magistrate was not satisfied, he posted a notice: if he could match the bridge, he would be rewarded with twelve taels of silver.

A few days later, no one came. At this time, the housekeeper suggested to the judge to try Tang Bohu, a famous wit. Hearing this, the magistrate suddenly thought of this brilliant plan, so he immediately sent for it. At that time, Tang Bohu was worried about having no money to buy wine. Hearing this, he immediately took the housekeeper to the magistrate's residence.

The magistrate knew that Tang Bohu was a famous wit, so he gave a banquet in his honor. After three rounds of drinking, Tang Bohu wrote two couplets:

one

Heroes of the world come here to bow,

The virtuous women in the world come in and take off their coats and skirts.

two

And it seems that the guests are affectionate and will never regret taking off their clothes;

Don't say this thing is useless, it will protect the flowers more when it becomes spring mud.

When the county magistrate saw this, he laughed, nodded in praise, ordered Tang Bohu to give him money, and asked Tang Bohu to be his chief of staff. Tang Bohu declined politely, but he still likes this free life. He wants to tell his life with poetry and calligraphy.
