Running Grass is a classic work inspired by China's calligraphy by Lin Huaimin, an internationally renowned choreographer. Dancers imitate their bodies and develop restrained and energetic movements full of cadence. On the stage, there are large-scale projections of famous calligraphers such as Wang Xizhi, Huai Su and Zhang Xu, as if dancing and calligraphy had merged into a flowing art through thousands of years of private dialogue.
Running Grass was written on 200 1. It is a work that condenses Lin Huaimin's achievements in studying oriental sports and spirit for many years, and it is also the first of a series of works "Running Grass Trilogy" inspired by calligraphy.
Lin Huaimin found that calligraphers of all ages, despite their different styles, all danced with the same concentrated energy, and the lines were full of traces of their luck. In Walking Grass, dancers learn from the calligrapher's spirit, copy calligraphy with physical movements, and show cadence and rapid movements with rich capacity changes.
Aside from tradition, the style of grass walking is contemporary. Dancers dressed in black danced on the white stage like ink on rice paper. The videos and slides projected on the huge white screen are in harmony with the dance. Close-ups of famous calligraphers of past dynasties are presented to the audience with amazing size and touching details.
