Portrait of Xu Wei

A few months after Xu Wei was born, his father died of illness. Perhaps because his father died early, Xu Wei was smart and precocious. He began to learn Tang poetry at the age of six, modern Chinese at the age of eight, piano at the age of twelve and fencing at the age of fifteen. Xu Wei failed repeatedly in the imperial examination. I was only admitted to the scholar at the age of twenty. After that, I have been taking the provincial examination and repeatedly failed the list until 4 1 year old. Xu Wei suffered repeated failures in the imperial examinations and suffered heavy losses.

Although Xu Wei's journey to the Imperial Examination was not very smooth, he was recruited as a clerk by Hu Zongxian, then the governor of South Military Affairs, because of his outstanding talent. This period was the best in Xu Wei's life, and Hu Zongxian also attached great importance to Xu Wei. Hu Zongxian was arrested for some reasons, and Xu Wei was also arrested for Hu Zongxian and forced to leave the Government House.

After years of failed exams, and because of Xu Wei's extreme personality, Xu Wei killed his wife in a crazy attack and was put in prison. With the help of some prestigious friends and the opportunity of Emperor Wanli's accession to the throne, Xu Wei was released from his cell. At this time, Xu Wei is 53 years old.

Xu Wei was poor in his later years, because he disdained buying industry when he was young, and he had to make a living by selling calligraphy and painting in his later years. When Xu Wei had more money, he would never do calligraphy and painting again, which also led to Xu Wei's poorer life when he could not do calligraphy and painting often after his illness. 1593, Xu Wei died at the age of 73.

With his own talent, Xu Wei constantly optimized his painting and calligraphy skills and became the most accomplished master of ink and wash freehand brushwork in Ming Dynasty. Compared with others, Xu Wei's ink freehand brushwork is unique and creates a new style of ink freehand brushwork. Xu Wei's freehand brushwork in ink and wash is not rigid, and everything in the painting is vividly displayed. Xu Wei's freehand brushwork in ink painting is not only about appearances, but also about the painter's inner feelings. It is precisely because Xu Wei pursues not only the surface, but the inside that Xu Wei can become the pioneer of * * *.

For Xu Wei, his freehand brushwork in ink and wash is not his favorite, and his own pride belongs to his words. There were not only many painters but also many calligraphers in the Ming Dynasty. Calligraphy in the Ming Dynasty has made new development on the basis of the original calligraphy. There will be outstanding figures in all kinds of fonts, but cursive script has made greater achievements in the Ming Dynasty. The font that Xu Wei is good at writing is wild grass. Most people can't understand what he wrote. Although others don't understand, he enjoys it himself. In each of Xu Wei's own paintings, he will write a poem for it to show his talent and calligraphy skills.

Xu Wei's calligraphy and painting have spread to this day, and everyone who has seen it sighs. In the present market, every calligraphy and painting by Xu Wei can fetch a high price.

Appreciation of Xu Wei's poems

As we all know, Xu Wei is a painter and a calligrapher. But people often ignore another specialty of Xu Wei-poetry. In every freehand brushwork by Xu Wei, there is a poem, so Xu Wei is also a poet.

There are many poems of Xu Wei that can be searched now, including many good ones. From so many poems of Xu Wei, we can see the shadow of Xu Wei behind the poems. Xu Wei's poetry is different from traditional poetry in some ways. It can be said that Xu Wei's poems are as eclectic as his people.

The theme of Xu Wei's poems mainly focuses on reality, on the one hand, reflecting current affairs and politics, on the other hand, expressing his feelings. The poems written by Xu Wei have their own style, unrestrained emotion and sincere enthusiasm. Xu Wei's poems in his later years are novel and unique, and he does not pursue discipline.

In fact, when studying the poems of Ming and Qing Dynasties, the reason why Xu Wei's poems were submerged in so many poems was because he was a common people. Xu Wei was neglected before his death and unhappy after his death. Fortunately, Yuan Hongdao, the literary leader at that time, discovered Xu Wei's poems and published them in the literary world, which made Xu Wei's poems reach the realm of research. Yuan Hongdao arranged Xu Wei's poems into a complete work, which provided a precious clue for future generations to study Xu Wei's poems. This * * * did not fade quickly, but continued into the Qianlong period. Xu Wei's poems spread all over the world because of Yuan Hongdao, so that the world can appreciate Xu Wei's outstanding literary talent instead of lying in obscurity in the dark.

According to folk rumors, Xu Wei kept his poems and paintings before his death because he knew that there was no burial fee so that he could sell them after his death and be buried.

Xu Wei tomb

Like Xu Wei's Qingteng Bookstore, Xu Wei's tomb was listed as a national key cultural relic protection project in 2006. At the entrance of Xu Wei's tomb, behind the bamboo door, the words "Xu Wei Cemetery" are written in the middle of the gatehouse. Walking into Xuwei Cemetery, the shape of Xuwei Tomb is square, the bottom is made of stone, and the top is covered with loess. In front of the tomb stands a stone tablet of Xu Wei, inscribed with seven characters "Tomb of Wenchang, Xu Ming", which was inscribed by Sha Menghai. Xu Wei's tomb is simple and simple, just like a man, without heavy makeup, only the purest deity. Surrounded by trees, Xu Wei's tomb is very quiet and a good place to settle down. Because this is the cemetery of the Xu family, there are graves of parents, brothers and daughters-in-law beside the tomb of Xu Wei.

In the cemetery, besides the tomb of the Hsu family, there is also a memorial room for Xu Wei. There is a couplet hanging on both sides of the entrance of the memorial room, which summarizes Xu Wei's life. Walking into the memorial room and looking around, many poems, paintings and couplets of Xu Wei are displayed in the memorial room for people who come to pay homage to Xu Wei to enjoy.

When Xu Wei was alive, nobody cared. After his death, people crowded. Many admirers who appreciate and love Xu Wei will want to explore the place where Xu Wei lived and created masterpieces handed down from generation to generation during his lifetime. After visiting these places, I believe many people can feel why Xu Wei can create such high-achievement works.

Xu Wei's former residence is in Shaoxing, Zhejiang. There is a quiet and long alley in Qianguan Lane of Shaoxing, which extends to the Qingteng Bookstore. Qingteng Bookstore is the former residence of Xu Wei, a painter and calligrapher in Ming Dynasty.

Former residence of Xu Wei

Walking into the Ivy Bookstore, you can see a yard that is not too big. In the corner of the yard, there are some bamboos swaying in the wind. Opposite the bamboo are plantains, pomegranates and so on. Although it is just ordinary flowers and plants, what gives people an elegant and comfortable feeling is the design of the yard.

Walking slowly inside, Xu Wei's study appeared in front of him. The decoration of the room is particularly simple and ordinary, and there is nothing special about it. There are Four Treasures of the Study on the desk in the room: pen, ink, paper and inkstone. On the wall opposite the door, the top plaque reads "Qingteng Bookstore" with the portrait of Xu Wei hanging under it. On both sides of the portrait, there is a couplet "Several rickety houses with a southern accent and a northern accent".

The back room of the study turned out to be Xu Wei's room. Now, it has become a place for Xu Wei's calligraphy and painting, and there are many excellent works of Xu Wei, including some classic works that amaze the world. This design can let visitors see Xu Wei's talent.

Xu Wei's life was bumpy, poor and brilliant, which made Xu Wei resentful and could only send love poems and paintings. In fact, the original bookstore was not called Ivy Bookstore, but was written by Chen Hongshou. At first, Wei Xu called his bookstore Liu Hua Bookstore. Fifty years after Xu Wei's death, the painter Chen Hongshou repaired Xu Wei's former residence because he appreciated Xu Wei. Chen Hongshou lived in Xu Wei's former residence for a year or two.
