Zuibai Pond, located in the old town of Songjiang, is a typical Jiangnan garden. The ancient trees are lush and the environment is quiet. Walking there, you can enjoy the simplicity and tranquility that is rare in the busy city. Baichi is not big, but there are various pavilions and rockery ponds. You can see the unique flower garden through the flower windows of the cloister. You can enjoy lotus flowers in summer, and see the annual chrysanthemum exhibition in late autumn. You can also see hundreds of plaques, inscriptions and stone sculptures written by famous artists in the gardens.
Zui is the oldest of the five major classical gardens in Shanghai (Yu Garden, Gu Yi Garden, Zui Garden, Qiuxiapu Park and Qushui Garden). Originally a private garden in the Song Dynasty, it later became the residence of Dong Qichang, a painter in the late Ming Dynasty. Some of the existing gardens were built by the Qing Dynasty painter Gu. Zuichi is now a park, divided into two parts: the inner garden and the outer garden. The outer garden is newly built, and the inner garden is the original classical garden. You can go to the inner garden from the west gate of Renmin South Road.
"Reading Hall"
Entering the outer garden, there is a brick sculpture facing the wall. The sculpture on it shows the scenic view of Zuibai Pond. Walking east along the boulevard, you can visit the Sculpture Hall, a classical residence from the Qing Dynasty that was relocated not long ago. The wood carving "Battle of Red Cliff" in the hall is worth seeing. There is a stone arch bridge in front. From the bridge, you can overlook the lotus ponds in the north and south. Especially in summer and autumn, the lotus flowers are in full bloom and the fragrance is overflowing. There is also a large lawn outside the park, as well as a rockery waterfall called "Five Color Spring" and a teahouse called "Yue Shu Tang".
Through the cedar forest, you can enter the inner garden from the west corridor. In the center of the garden is a rectangular lotus pond, which is Zuibai Pond. It is very pleasant to walk around the corridor around the pond. Although the garden is small, it has luxuriant flowers and trees, and there are many ornamental pines and bamboos in the garden. There are large camphor trees in the north of the pool, a peony garden in the east of the pool, and golden osmanthus and seals in the backyard of Xuehaitang in the west of the pool. Various potted flowers are often placed around the pond and pavilion. The chrysanthemum exhibition in mid-November every year is worth a visit, where you can see hundreds of varieties of chrysanthemums. In addition, there is a bonsai garden next to the south side of the inner garden, and the scenery inside is also good.
