There are no red pillars in the world. Why did China paint "Zhu Zhu"?

By the time of painting in China in the Northern Song Dynasty, more and more literati participated in the pre-painting, and painting and literature gradually merged. The "four gentlemen" of plum, chrysanthemum, bamboo and orchid, which are advocated by literati and symbolizing the virtues of life, have also become the theme of painting. Su Shi was the representative of literati and painter at that time and the founder of Zhu Zhu.

Su Shi, Zi Zizhan, was born in meishan county, Sichuan. He is one of the eight masters in Tang and Song Dynasties. Su Shi and Xin Qiji created the school of bold and unconstrained ci in the Northern Song Dynasty, and Su Shi was one of the four great calligraphers in the Song Dynasty. His life story is widely known, and he is a brilliant scholar in many aspects. Because Su Shi's calligraphy is superb and interesting, once his paintings are written, he is fascinated. He loved bamboo all his life. "You can't live without meat." No meat makes people thin, no bamboo makes people vulgar. People are thin and fat, but most people are incurable. "His ink bamboo claimed to have learned it from his cousin Wen Tong. Su Shi also made friends with famous painters in the Northern Song Dynasty, such as Li, Mi Fei and so on, so his paintings were guided by many famous artists. He often draws bamboo from the bottom to the top of the picture. People asked him: why not draw in sections? He replied, "When bamboo was born, did it come out one by one? "When Su Shi was a judge in Hangzhou, he once took a class. At that time, his paintings were very popular. But there was no ink on the case except cinnabar, so he used cinnabar as ink to draw bamboo. Later, people asked him: there is only bamboo in the world, where did it come from? Su Shi replied: "There is no ink bamboo in the world. You can draw with ink, why not use ink! "It is said that because of his initiative, Zhu Zhu became popular in literati painting, and Su Shi was naturally regarded as the originator of Zhu Zhu.

Shi's "Zhu and Zhu Tu" embodies his painting thought of not seeking similarity. This painting theory has a far-reaching artistic point of view, and it is also the origin of the artistic principle of "chatting for self-entertainment without asking for rewards from others" by later scholars.
