Common name Xie, 1992 was born in Zhengzhou, Henan province in August.
Interview time: 2011the morning of February 9.
Interview location: Shiyan Buddhist Temple in Shaolin Temple
The last row of rooms at the westernmost end of Liao Fang in Shaolin Temple is Shi Yancheng's meditation room. Knocking at the door gently, he was reading a book, and a strong scholarly atmosphere came to his face.
Master Yancheng's method is solemn, not angry and arrogant, and quite chivalrous. The conversation is more witty and unguarded. He said that this encounter is a fate, a rare fate. Because he is going back to Henan Buddhist College in a few days, this time he has a holiday, so he came back to see Master.
Speaking of the Henan Buddhist College where he attended, Master Yancheng is very proud. He said that this Buddhist college can be said to be one of the best in China at present. The requirements for monks who come to school are very high. They will take a foreign language exam during the exam. According to your language, English requires CET-4, which is higher than ordinary colleges and universities. Ordinary colleges and universities only require to obtain CET-4 certificate before graduation. The courses offered by the school are also very systematic, such as the history of China's philosophy, the history of western philosophy and the history of Indian philosophy, with a wide range of contents. There is also a Sanskrit class, which is taught by Korean teacher of Chinese Academy of Sciences. The school provides us with free broadband internet access, which makes it easy for us to integrate into this ever-changing society. ...
His account greatly exceeded our expectations: the Buddhist college in our impression is nothing more than teaching people to recite scriptures. Who would have thought there would be so much content? ! And the requirements for foreign languages are so high, and computers are so valued! It seems that becoming a monk is not easy. Think about it, it seems much more difficult for a monk to hold new concept English all day than to hold Buddhist scriptures.
Master Yancheng said, I practiced martial arts in the temple at first, and later, influenced by the great monk Xia Yong, I worked hard for a long time before I began to learn from the scriptures in depth. After several years of study, I gradually understand that becoming a monk does not have to experience the failure of the world of mortals, and a real monk is not necessarily an ancient Buddha. With the development of the times, we monks should also take the initiative to adapt to society. As the saying goes, "Buddhism cannot be separated from secular law." If we don't have any response and understanding to this rapidly changing world, how can you live with all beings? Master often taught me that becoming a monk can be a newer way of life and a higher spiritual pursuit.
