In order to further develop the cultural undertakings for the elderly in Nanshan, 100 million yuan has been invested in the Danling area of ??Nanshan to build a modern multi-functional university building for the elderly with a construction area of ??16,000 square meters. A Sunshine Art Plaza covering an area of ??17,000 square meters will be built next to the University for the Elderly, and a multi-functional large stage, open-air dance floor and fitness path will be built. The main construction of the Nanshan University for the Elderly in Shandong is planned to be completed in April 2011 and by the end of 2011. The renovation was completed and officially put into use in March 2012.
The newly built Nanshan University for the Elderly building is the center of sports and cultural undertakings for the elderly in Nanshan and has multiple functions: 1. Nanshan Association for the Elderly; 2. Nanshan University for the Elderly; 3. Nanshan Sunshine Art Troupe; 4. Nanshan People Fitness Activity Center; 5. Nanshan Children’s Activity Center; 6. Nanshan International Elderly Care Exchange Center; 7. Creation Base of Calligraphers Association and Artists Association; 8. Nanshan Cultural Activity Center; 9. Service Center for the Elderly.
There are various classrooms arranged in the building of Shandong Nanshan University for the Elderly, such as: Tai Chi practice room, dance room, vocal music room, opera room, calligraphy and painting room, instrumental music room, computer room, reading room, etc. Teachers and experts with high reputation and certain teaching experience in Longkou City and even the country give regular lectures; at the same time, Nanshan University for the Elderly is also equipped with various entertainment activity rooms, such as: table tennis room, basketball room, fitness activity room, Bathroom etc. In addition, the Shandong Nanshan Senior Citizens Association, Nanshan Senior Citizens Art Troupe, Nanshan International Senior Education Exchange Center, Nanshan Children’s Training Center, and Nanshan National Fitness Activity Center have offices arranged in the building.
