Couplet of Printing and Photo Pavilion

1. This couplet is very difficult and interesting. I present it to you for your reference:

The eight-sided virtual pavilion is full of spring scenery;

Good things are happening all around.

2. Detailed explanation:

A garden magazine published the article "A Talk on Fish Viewing in Garden History Park, Hangzhou Huagang", which introduced the Yinying Pavilion couplets like this: "Spring scenery in the eight-sided virtual pavilion Full, good things come from all sides. "The second word of the first line is "bian", and the second word of the second line is "face".

A blog wrote this: "There is a pavilion by Huagang called Yinying Pavilion. In front of the pavilion there is a couplet written in oracle bone script: 'The Eight Paths of the Virtual Pavilion is full of spring scenery, and the four mouths of good energy return to the golden scales'." The couplets are elegantly drawn and the calligraphy is simple, which is a wonderful way to describe this feeling and scene. Standing in the Yinying Pavilion and looking over, the willow trees, red maples, pine leaves, and various flowers on the opposite side are reflected on the lake, with mottled colors and mixed colors under the sunlight. It looks strange and bizarre from below. If it looks like a fine meticulous painting from above, then the reflection on the lake is like an outstanding work by an impressionist painter." He wrote the second word of the first couplet as "dao" and the second word of the second couplet. The word is written as "口".

Another book that specializes in couplets quoted this: "The empty pavilion on all sides is full of spring scenery; the good atmosphere is all around. - Liu Hui inscribed the pavilion of watching fish prints and shadows in Huagang." It is different from the first two. The second character in the first line is "face" and the second character in the second line is "wai". He said it was "Liu Hui's question."

In this couplet, I agree with the last one, it should be: The eight-sided empty pavilion is full of spring scenery; the surroundings are filled with beautiful scenery. I saw on the photo printing booth that it was written by Mr. Gu Tinglong. It is not indicated who wrote this couplet. Gu Tinglong is the director of the Shanghai Library, a famous calligrapher and a scholar. He wrote couplets for many famous places. As for Liu Huiyi, no information about this person was found.

Why do I agree that it should be "the empty pavilion on all sides is full of spring scenery; the good atmosphere is all around"? I checked the Zhengcao Li-Zhuan Dictionary. The ancient Chinese characters are as written by Mr. Gu Tinglong, with page 440 markings. The ancient Chinese character "WEI" becomes a kou character, see the attached picture of the word "WEI" on page 57. The last word of the second line, the word "Hui", is shown on the attached picture on page 56, as written by Mr. Gu Tinglong.

Based on the phonology of the couplets, the first couplet is 廄廄平平廄仄, and the second character should be a 廄 sound, not the word "bian", which is a flat tone; the second couplet is 平仄仄仄平平, Instead of the oblique character for "面", the flat character for "外" should be used.

The eight-sided virtual pavilion is full of spring scenery, and the surroundings are full of good atmosphere. What I mean is, looking out from the octagonal Yinying Pavilion, everything is filled with spring colors. The fragrant atmosphere around the Yinying Pavilion attracts the golden scales to swim back one after another.

This is really it: Huagang Fish-viewing Shadow Pavilion, surrounded by many things to look for. The spring beauty of Jinlin is infinitely beautiful, and the old and the new bring poetry together.
