Wang Xianzhi, the son of Wang Xizhi, was also influenced by his father's calligraphy since childhood. He likes calligraphy and practices it all day. Wang Xianzhi began to practice calligraphy when he was very young. He studied hard for some time and thought his calligraphy was very good. I'm going to ask my father's opinion for a compliment.
But his father, Wang Xizhi, said that he didn't even touch the door of calligraphy, and he was still far from it, so he continued to practice calligraphy honestly and diligently. But at that time, Wang Xizhi was still a child and didn't understand the charm of calligraphy, so he didn't practice for a few days and went to his father to evaluate calligraphy. But unlike the praise he imagined, Wang Xizhi was very angry after seeing it.
Wang Xianzhi's handwriting is not good at all, so he took it back to practice. However, Wang Xianzhi was not convinced. After coming out from his father, he secretly went to his mother to get a more objective evaluation, but unexpectedly, her mother replied that there was only one point in Rainbow's Xi Zhi. But that point is exactly the point that Wang Xizhi points on the paper when he is angry.
Extended data
Wang Xizhi began to learn calligraphy at the age of seven, and studied under Mrs. Wei and his uncle Wang Xun, who came from a calligraphy family. Later, he visited the exquisite works of the masters of seal script in Qin and Han Dynasties. He studied the form, imitated the handwriting, learned from others' strengths, and melted into one furnace, creating a running script that was "natural and full of charm" and was praised as a "book saint" by later generations.
Professor Peking University and pioneer Li Zhimin commented: "Wang Xizhi's calligraphy not only shows simplicity and abstinence based on Laozi and Zhuangzi's philosophy, but also shows harmony based on Confucian golden mean." Calligraphy reached its peak in his later years, and Preface to Lanting was his masterpiece in his later years.
