Qian Zhongshu's Reading Method

Su Shi, a great poet in the Song Dynasty, said, "So, if you never get tired of reading, practice makes perfect." I know many celebrities love reading. Moreover, in the long-term study career, they have explored a set of unique methods that suit them.

Reading method:

1. Mao Zedong's "three times and four temperatures" and "no pen and ink, no reading"

Mao Zedong cherished time and read widely all his life. When he was young, he was familiar with ancient books such as Historical Records and Hanshu. In his later years, he repeatedly studied his favorite history books. After reading them, he circled the cover. So in many books he has read, he has left several circles. When reading, Mao Zedong has the habit of "reading more, thinking more, writing more and asking more questions". He often extracts while reading, writes notes, keeps a reading diary, corrects mistakes in the original book, and marks important places with symbols such as circles, bars and dots.

2. Lu Xun's reading method

Lu Xun's reading method is also very unique. First, extensive reading, he advocated learning from others and "browsing casually" in his spare time. The second is to look carefully. For those that are difficult to understand, you must read and keep reading until you understand and get through. The third is specialization. He advocates "extensive reading" as the basis, and then choose his favorite category for in-depth research. Fourth, live reading. He believes that reading should be independent thinking, focusing on observation and practice, and reading this living book in the world with his own eyes. The fifth is to participate in reading. Lu Xun not only read Selected Works, but also read the author's biographies and picture books to deepen his understanding of the works.

3. Hua's "accumulation method" and "reasoning method"

Hua is a mathematician who grew up by hard self-study, and his reading method is unique.

Thickness method. Hua divides the reading process into two stages: from thick to thin and from thin to thick. He believes that when a person really has a thorough understanding of the content of the book and grasps the main points of the book, the book will become thinner from thick to thin. The more thoroughly you know, the thinner you feel. If we discuss each chapter in depth in the process of reading, add notes on each page and supplement the reference materials, then the book will become thicker and thicker. Reading is a two-way process from thick to thin and from thin to thick.

Push ideas. After getting a book, Hua first thought about the title, and then began to close his eyes and speculate: What should I do if I do it myself? Don't start reading until you have thought everything over. He took a quick look at what he already knew and absorbed in reading the novel and original ideas in the book. In this way, he learned from others and benefited a lot.

4. Wang Zikun's "Copying Method"

Mathematician Wang Zikun's reading method is also very stylish. He copied Lin Yutang's Advanced English Law, The Complete Book of English and The Art of War. Wang Zikun said that people only know the pain of copying books and don't know the benefits of copying books. Copying a book once is better than reading it ten times.

5. Qian Zhongshu's "note-taking method"

Qian Zhongshu, a famous contemporary scholar, writer and translator, reads more books and takes more notes. Many people think that Qian Zhongshu has a strong memory and never forgets anything, but he doesn't think he is so "divine" himself. He just likes reading, willing to work hard, not only reading, but also taking notes; Not only once or twice, but also three or four times, and the notes are constantly supplemented. Qian Zhongshu takes notes about twice as long as reading a book.

In fact, everyone has different reading methods for different books. What suits him may not suit you, as the saying goes, "reading is a personalized behavior." However, from the reading methods mentioned above, you will find one thing in common, that is, you can't do without reading, reading and thinking.
