Rirkrit Tiravanija

Exhibition time: 1990

Venue: About Paula Allen Gallery.

Since1990s, Ti Ravani has combined his artistic works with the moral concept of social participation, and often invited the audience to the scene to activate his works. Ravani totally rejects traditional artworks, but cooks and provides food for exhibition visitors. With cooking and food as the media, he was questioned by the general audience, and it was difficult to accept such an artistic concept for a while. Not all tourists really realize that this behavior is an art form. Some people think it's just a catering service.

In this seemingly simple work, Ti Ravani invites the audience to interact with contemporary art in a more social way, blurring the sense of distance between the artist and the audience. You no longer just look at art, but become a part of it. More importantly, when you are eating food and chatting with friends or people you just met, you are creating art.
