Creation background

Before the unification of Qin Dynasty, due to the long-term separatist regime of vassal states, there was a situation of abnormal language and writing. Qin Shihuang always hoped to have a standard font to replace the variant characters that were popular before. Seeing that Li Si is good at calligraphy, I assigned him this task.

On the basis of his own writing method of Xiao Zhuan, Li Si simplified the font of Da Zhuan and sorted out a set of characters with simple strokes and neat fonts, which was called Qin Zhuan. After reading these new books, Qin Shihuang was very satisfied, so he set them as standard fonts and ordered them to be used nationwide.

In the Han Dynasty, Cang Xie was revised several times. At first, it was 3300 words in 55 chapters, and now it is called Cang Xie. Yang Xiong revised it to 89 chapters, without repetition. Ban Gu was changed to 120, with no duplication. Jia Biao was revised to 34 chapters. In the Jin Dynasty, Zhang Gui revised Cang Xie, which evolved from a primary literacy class to a large reference book with 7380 words in 123 chapters.
