Su Shi was a writer, calligrapher, gourmet, painter and historical water control celebrity in the Northern Song Dynasty. In history, there are only a handful of great talents who can reach the first-class level in poetry, calligraphy and painting. Only in this way, he was duty-bound to advocate literati painting with the combination of poetry and painting, and became the founder of literati painting theory.
Su Shi's point of view
Su Shi believes that poetry and painting are interlinked. "Poetry and painting are unified, ingenious and fresh." So he especially admired Wang Wei's paintings in the Tang Dynasty. "There are pictures in the poem, which are fascinating; Look at this picture. There are poems in the painting. " He believes that painting should not only be satisfied with form, but also pay attention to spirit.
Su Shi once wrote a poem: "The similarity of paintings can be seen in children's neighbors." Painting should show the meaning of "outside the image". He mentioned in "Han Jie's Mountain with Paintings", "Looking at literati paintings is like reading the horse in the world and taking its spirit." Spirit is actually the expression of a painter's morality, knowledge and artistic accomplishment in his paintings.
