Zhang Pu's Seven Records and Seven Burns Zhang Pu's courtesy name is Tianru and his nickname is Ximing. He was born in Taicang in the late Ming Dynasty and was a famous writer in the Ming Dynasty.

Zhang Pu has been hardworking and self-motivated since he was a child, and he is diligent and studious. Every time he reads a recitation, he must copy it by hand first, read it aloud after copying, and then incinerate it. Then copy, read, and burn again. A classic article must be copied six or seven times before it is willing to give up. Because Zhang Pu had to copy every article seven times, the fingers and palm of his right hand where he held the pen were thick calluses. When the weather is cold and dry in winter, the skin of his fingers will freeze and dry out and crack. He will warm his hands with warm water before scratching them. He always warms his hands with warm water several times a day. Later, he named his study "Qi Lu Zhai", and his life's writings were also called "Qi Lu Zhai Ji".

There was a military attache named Zhang Yao in the Qing Dynasty. He was promoted to the post of Chief Secretary of Henan due to his meritorious service in the hard battle. He dropped out of school since childhood, was uneducated, and was often discriminated against by officials. The censor Liu Minnan said that he was "illiterate", so he was appointed as the chief soldier. From then on, Zhang Yao determined to study hard so that he could be good at literature and martial arts.

Who can I ask for advice? Zhang Yao thought that his wife was very educated, so when he got home, he asked his wife to teach him how to read. His wife said, "It's okay to teach, but there must be one condition, which is to practice the rite of apprenticeship and learn respectfully." Zhang Yao agreed, immediately put on court clothes, asked his wife to sit in front of Confucius's tablet, and said this to her. The ceremony of kneeling three times and prostrating nine times. From then on, his wife taught him how to read classics and history in his spare time. Whenever his wife acted like a teacher, he would bow down and listen to the instructions without daring to be disrespectful. At the same time, he also asked someone to carve an "illiterate" seal and often wore it on his body as a warning. Because his wife taught seriously, Zhang Yao studied hard, and after a few years, he finally became a very knowledgeable person.

Later, when he was the governor of Shandong, someone again accused him of being "illiterate." He wrote to the emperor for an interview. The interview results surprised the emperor and many ministers. When Zhang Yao took office in Shandong, he built river embankments, repaired roads, opened factories, refined manufacturing, and did many things that benefited the country and the people. Because he was diligent and studious, the emperor posthumously named him "Qinguo" after his death.

Fan Zhongyan grew up in a poor family. In order to study, he lived frugally. Finally, his diligence and studious moved the elders of the temple, and the elders sent him to Nandu Academy to study. When he turned over in the morning, his head fell on the bed board, and he woke up naturally. From then on, he woke up early every day. He got up to study and persevered, and finally became a knowledgeable writer who wrote "Zi Zhi Tong Jian".

Ouyang Xiu borrowed classics. Ouyang Xiu, a great writer in the Northern Song Dynasty, was very talented since he was a child. However, due to his poor family, his family had no money to buy paper or pens. In order to let his son practice calligraphy, Ouyang Xiu's mother, Zheng, came up with an ingenious way to use Ogi grass instead of brush teaching. Little Ouyang Xiu writes. Ouyang Xiu worked hard, developed good calligraphy, and became a well-known child prodigy. This hard-working spirit also influenced his little friend Li Yaofu, leading Li Yaofu to the path of learning.
