The legend of Golden Horse Chicken is widely circulated in Yunnan. Dayao and Yongren in western Yunnan, Mojiang and Jiangcheng in southern Yunnan are all circulating. Kunming, located in the east of Yunnan, has the richest content and the most folk customs.
The legend of Golden Horse Chicken circulating in Kunming has two main contents: First, it is similar to the legend of Dayao. It is said that Kunming was a desolate and barren land in ancient times, and there were no trees and flowers on the mountains. One day, the sun rose, and a fine horse flew out of the sun with a "rumbling" noise; When the moon came out that day, a rooster carved by Jasper flew out with the sound of "Flowers". As a result, Kunming is full of golden flowers, mountains and golden fruits, dams and blue seas, birds flying and fish and shrimp jumping. Secondly, according to legend, King Yong of Wu married Princess Ailao, and Golden Horse and Blue Phoenix were gifts given to King Dian as dowry. Later, because the king of Dian had two princes, they both gave way to the throne. The old king of Yunnan accepted the prime minister's plan and asked the two princes to look for the golden horse and the blue chicken in the mountains. As a result, the two princes never came back after they went to find the golden horse and chicken, which became the reason why many folk customs in Kunming commemorated the golden horse and chicken.
The legend of golden horse crowing has a long history, and it was circulated among the people as early as the Western Han Dynasty BC. According to historical records, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty listened to the alchemist's statement and thought that there was a chicken in the south of Yunling, with green feathers, which could break stones and fly in the air, dazzling and lasting forever. Xuan Di, Emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty, appointed Wang Bao to cure too much, and went to Yunnan to invite him to cure too much. Wang Bao did not arrive for some reason, but also wrote "Ode to Golden Horse and Chicken" as a sacrifice. Huayang Guozhi, a long canal in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, says that there are dragons and horses in Dianchi Lake, and horses and dragons mate to produce good horses, which can be "500 Ali days". Li Daoyuan (AD 472-527), a geographer in the Northern Wei Dynasty, also mentioned that there was a golden horse and a blue chicken in Yushan, Dayao, which was "common among the people". After the Tang and Song Dynasties, this wonderful legend was used by Buddhists, saying that the Golden Horse was the "god horse" of the Buddhist Ashoka. After the Tang Dynasty, there were temples such as Golden Horse and Biji in the East and West Mountains of Kunming, which people regarded as gods to worship. Scholars of all ages recited many poems about Golden Horse and Blue Phoenix. Guoyuan Jincheng has a poem Bijiashan:
As soon as Biji flew away, Biji Valley was empty.
Thousands of years later, it was like a mountain.
The evening mist is beautiful and the morning sun is full of shadows.
Jin Ming has a poem "Dragon Horseshoe Stone":
From then on, the foal swept the body and the hoof prints were clear.
When the storm comes out, light tobacco falls into the flower stream.
In ancient times, there were Fang and Bi Fang on Jinbi Road in Kunming. The two squares face each other across the street. As early as the Ming Dynasty, there was the following record in Jingtai Yunnan Atlas: "A table was built at Biji Jinma Square on Shisan Street in the south of the city, which was the victory of one side." Jinma Bijifang was founded in Xuande period of Ming Dynasty. It was originally a stone workshop. During the reign of Shunzhi in Qing Dynasty, it was destroyed by war, rebuilt during the reign of Kangxi, and then repaired several times. It is two wooden archways, called Jinmafang in the east and Bijifang in the west. Each square is three inches wide and the bottom is open to pedestrians. On the memorial archway, the characters "Golden Horse and Blue Chicken" were written in regular script by Sun Qingyan, a tribute calligrapher, and gilded with gold foil. According to legend, the 60th anniversary of the Year of the Rooster, the night of Mid-Autumn Festival, when the sun sets and the moon is full, the two squares face each other and the moonlight shines. The reflection of Jinma Biji Square is combined with the movement of light, which is called "resplendent" and one of the eight scenic spots in Kunming. Jinma Bijifang was destroyed in 1966 and rebuilt in 1999.
