The Origin and Legend of the Name of Elephant Trunk Mountain in Xiangshan Scenic Area

Legend has it that the seven fairies came down to earth to enjoy the beauty of the world. The youngest fairy saw that people living in this land were often troubled by floods, and the people were miserable, so she came to earth with the Jade Emperor's mount astronomical phenomena to help people clean up the river. Soon after, she was known by the jade emperor, who ordered him to bring the fairy back to heaven.

And turn the sky into a stone mountain and hold it down with a sword, so that the sky will never return to heaven. One day, Bodhisattva Samantabhadra came here and saw a Buddha being held here by a sword. Bodhisattva samantabhadra was moved by the behavior of the Buddha and showed great compassion. She used her magic to pull out the sword from the elephant.

However, after all, the celestial phenomena violated the rules of heaven and private land, so the Bodhisattva had to put her vase on the elephant's back to maintain her town house. Later, Aquarius became the Pu Xian Tower on Elephant Trunk Hill. I don't know how long it took, but Bodhisattva Samantabhadra rode white elephants and saw celestial phenomena, so he wanted to transform them into mountains, but even after the transformation, he couldn't fly.

Just as the Bodhisattva was returning to the sky, she found that the river was empty and there were no livestock. She learned that it was because the celestial phenomena dredged and disturbed the river, making it polluted and uninhabitable. After careful examination, the Bodhisattva found that there were no stones at the bottom of the river, so that the soil in the river could not settle down. Bodhisattva turned his white elephant into a shining "stone foot" and fell into the Lijiang River.

At the bottom of the river, countless glittering river stones suddenly appeared, and the water of Lijiang River became crystal clear in an instant. Since then, people have lived and multiplied along this river. Later, it was said that this stone was the right foot of Bodhisattva Samantabhadra, stepping on the golden lotus interest world. Later, people were moved by what the astronomical phenomena did for the world, so they named it "Elephant Trunk Mountain", that is, Elephant Trunk Mountain. People always appreciate the compassion of Bodhisattva to commemorate the white elephant.

In the spirit of self-sacrifice, the stone of Lijiang River is called "Clear Water Stone". Guilin people have a natural love for Elephant Trunk Mountain and Lijiang Stone, and have sincere emotional sustenance. Stone appreciation, stone-hiding culture and landscape culture have long been integrated into the daily cultural life of Guilin people, and all kinds of precious stones collected by people can be seen at home, in the yard, in the office and on the body.

There is a saying among the people: "The stone in the mountain is strange, the stone in the water is clear, the stone in the home is safe, the stone in the garden is quiet, the stone in the hall is elegant, and the stone on the body is expensive"; People all believe that "Qingshui Stone" has the spiritual attributes of exorcising evil spirits, saving houses and helping fortune.

Many of these stone carvings have weathered to varying degrees, and some of them are even indistinguishable. Among them, the famous stone carvings are Zhang Xiaoxiang's Chaoyang Pavilion and Poem of Chaoyang Pavilion in the second year of Song Dynasty, and Fan Chengda's Water-rich Dong Yueming in the ninth year of Song Dynasty.

There are also many stone carvings in Xiangbi Mountain (that is, Shuiyue Cave), including poems by Zhang Wei, Zheng and others in the Song Dynasty.

In the third year of Song Qingyuan, Du Sigong carved Lu You's poems, at least for four years, and Zhang carved Zhao Gongde's political monument. The inscriptions on Shuiyue Cave by Zhang Fu, Shuiyue Cave by Chen Chou and Shuiyue Cave by Zhuo Xun all belong to very valuable calligraphy works.
