Differences between Mandarin and Zuo Zhuan

1, different literary genres

Guoyu is a national style work in ancient China. Zuo Zhuan is China's first detailed chronicle.

2. Different ideological tendencies

"Guoyu" focuses on recording facts, so the ideas expressed vary with the people and words recorded. For example, the Confucian language recorded in Lu Yu contains Confucianism; Chyi Yu described Guan Zhong's language and talked about bullying. Fan Li is still feminine, greedy and retired, with Taoist color.

The figures and events in Zuo Zhuan are compiled according to historical materials, but the author also shows certain ideological views and political tendencies when describing these historical figures and events. This kind of thought is close to Confucianism in ethics, political opinions, emphasis on hierarchy, and the concept of respect and inferiority.

3. Different literary influences.

There is a strong ethical tendency in the content of Guoyu, which carries forward the spirit of virtue, respects etiquette norms and considers "courtesy" as the foundation of governing the country. It emphasizes loyalty to the monarch. The political view of Mandarin is relatively progressive, it opposes autocracy and corruption, attaches importance to public opinion and talents, and has a strong people-oriented thought. Putonghua records the economy, finance, military affairs, art of war, diplomacy, education, law and marriage in the Spring and Autumn Period, which is very important for studying the history of the pre-Qin period.

In the process of narrating events, Zuo Zhuan shows a group of historical figures with different experiences and personalities for the first time. Although they don't do it with their heart, they sometimes exaggerate and objectively accumulate valuable experience in image-building, which provides rare enlightenment and important reference for the emergence of biographical literature and historical novels.
