A poem that amuses oneself.

Translation:

There was a handsome boy in his childhood who did nothing. In middle age, Jinshi failed in the exam and lived in Jinghu. There is a thatched cottage in the north of the lake and a pine island in the west of the lake.

Whenever the wind is clear and the moon is bright, (he) will take the children and old people in the neighborhood and prop up a canoe between the hut and Song Dao, which will make his indifferent heart very comfortable. Where he lives, there are deep springs and trees, and every grass and flower makes people linger. He comes from a poor family, keeps a guqin, and entertains himself by (often) walking, reciting poems and lying drunk.

Xu Ning had a (very high) poem title from the beginning. When he met Fang Gan, he valued him very much, so he became a mentor with him, and Xu Ning taught Fang Gan to write metrical poems. Fang Gan gave Xu a poem, saying it was "talking about new poems in the grass". At that time, people thought that Fang Gan said (Xu Ning) was an old man in the village, and suspected that Fang Gan mocked Xu Ning, but it was not like this.

Wang Lian, a doctor, went to East Zhejiang to ask about politics, invited Fang Gan to come according to the etiquette, praised his integrity, recommended it to the court, and entrusted Wu Rong to draft the playing table. After a while, Wang Lian died of illness, and things didn't work out in the end. In his early years, Fang Gan traveled between Beijing and Capital with eunuchs. Some enthusiastic dignitaries rushed to invite him, but he didn't get fame in the end, so (Fang Gan) went back and no longer had the idea of pursuing fame. As long as there are scenic spots in the gardens in central Zhejiang, he visits his master, leaving poems almost all over those gardens.

When Li Pinshi studied poetry from Fang Gan, Li Pin was admitted as a scholar. The poet Qingyue congratulated Fang Gan: "My disciple won the laurel, but my husband still cares about the garden." Xian Tong died in the last year (Fang Gan). His master discussed his virtue and behavior together, and decided to posthumously award Xuan Ying. Sun He and others of Le 'an collected more than 370 poems and compiled them into ten volumes.

Advise people to be clear-headed and careless. Among the large and medium-sized schools, most of the literati live in Jinghu. There are Maozhai in Hubei and Song Dao in West Lake. Every time the weather is clear and the moon is bright, it is very pleasant to bring a young child to the community and travel back and forth lightly. Living in Shui Mu, every grass and flower can keep guests. Poor family, storing guqin, lying drunk and entertaining himself.

There was a poem at the beginning. As soon as I saw it, I became friends with my teacher and friends because I was given rice. There is a gift of setting poetry, and the cloud "talks about new poetry in the grass." At that time, it was not true that the village always called irony, doubt and ridicule. Even asked Zhedong, invited him to do it, praised him, recommended him to go to North Korea, and asked him to draft it. If you do something, the princes will die and nothing will happen.

In the dry year, I plan to travel to and from Beijing, and the officials and the good will compete, but I don't start with the name, recursively, and have no sense of honor or disgrace. In the middle of Zhejiang, whenever there is a garden scenic spot, the host must be sent away several times. Li Bo is a beginner as a poet, and the disciple of the poet Qingyue has already lost Mr. Gui's heart. The master talks about virtue as a trace, Shi Yue Xuan Ying. Le Sun 'an and others wrote more than 370 poems in volume 10.

This book records the deeds of poets in the middle and late Tang Dynasty, including some poets in the Five Dynasties. In the order of poets. The book preserved a large number of living materials of poets in the Tang Dynasty, and described their experiences in imperial examinations in detail.

After the biography, there were comments on the poet's artistic gains and losses, including many ancient sayings in the Tang Dynasty, among which there were quite incisive opinions. However, there are many inaccuracies and fallacies, such as saying that Luo sang with Song in Lingyin Temple, that the one in Zhongxing was compiled by Gao Shi (actually Gao Zhongwu), and that Li Shangyin was the governor of Guangzhou. There are also mistakes caused by misunderstanding of materials, such as Biography of Liu Changqing and Quan Deyu calling Liu Changqing the "Great Wall of Five Words", while according to Quan Deyu's Chorus of Qin School and Liu Suizhou, it is actually Liu Changqing's "self-righteous".
