The scholar thought to himself, "I'm such an ugly old woman, and I don't deserve my present scenery." I must marry a beautiful little beauty, so as not to be an official for nothing! Isn't it just to make money and marry a little wife that you take great pains to be an official?
However, what if I just say I want to take a concubine and this yellow-faced woman makes a scene? She said I was Chen Shimei. I just became an official, and my reputation can't be ruined. Yes, I will write a sentence and test her. So, the scholar found a lotus root and wrote a sentence on his wife's dresser: "The lotus root is defeated, and the leaves belong to the old lotus root."
This is a pun, "lotus root" homophonic "even". On the surface, the lotus is old, and so is the lotus root. In fact, it means that the wife has become a yellow-faced woman, which is unbearable to appreciate. The scholar's wife, before she married the scholar, was also a talented woman who knew poetry couplets.
After marriage, in order to provide a place for the scholar to study wholeheartedly, she worked hard for this family, weaving and cooking all day, and even had no time to rest. My wife remembered the story that Zhuo Wenjun dissuaded Sima Xiangru from taking concubinage with "The Ballad of the Bald Head", so she decided to follow Zhuo Wenjun's example and invited people to move people with emotion.
Seeing the scholar's words, she wrote a couplet: "The ecliptic is ripe and the rice is new." The literal meaning of this sentence is that the leaves of the grain turn yellow and the rice is ripe. Blow off the chaff on the surface and the rice grains will come out. In fact, the homophonic vowel means that the wife is "dross", the bride is "good rice", and the scholar burns the bridge, only the new one laughs and the old one doesn't cry.
From the antithesis point of view, this pair of couplets is neat and neat, and from the moral point of view, the couplets are even more ingenious and punning. "My wife is also very happy:" The prodigal son will never change his money, and I forgive you! " "
