Xiangfu Temple was founded in the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, which is known as "the mountain meets the vulture ridge, and the law follows the kindness" in history. According to legend, Genjyo Sanzo, a master in the Tang Dynasty, visited the temple and saw that the main peak behind the temple was quite similar to Ling jiusan, hence the name "Xiaolingshan". When General Hang Yun saw that Master Xuanzang liked it so much, he invested to build the "Xiaolingshan Temple" at the foot of the mountain, and Kui Ji, Xuanzang's eldest disciple, was the first to preside over it. During the period of Xiangfu in the Northern Song Dynasty, the temple was renamed "Xiangfu Zen Temple". Xiangfu Temple was destroyed by the war in1930s. After the reform and opening up, the ancient temple was rebuilt.
