The night is still young, the music is not yet sad: the night is not over yet, the music has not stopped yet.
Source: The poem "Shi. Xiaoya. Ting Liao" in the Book of Songs:
How is the night? The night is still young, the courtyard is burning with light. When the gentleman comes to an end, the sound of the luan will be heard.
How is the night? The night is still dark, and the courtyard is ablaze. When the gentleman stops, the luan sounds.
How is the night? In the night and in the morning, the courtyard is lit with brilliance. When a gentleman stops, he watches his flag.
Translation:
What time of night is it now? The night is still dark. The candles in the courtyard were shining brightly, and the princes and ministers were approaching, just like the jingling of car bells.
What time of night is it now? The night is still dark and there is no morning light. The lights in the court were bright, and the princes and ministers were approaching, just like the jingling of car bells.
What time of night is it now? The night will give way to the morning light. The candles in the court were still bright. The princes and ministers were approaching and saw the flags flying.
Extended information
The Book of Songs is the beginning of ancient Chinese poetry and the first collection of poetry in my country. It collects poetry from the early Western Zhou Dynasty to the middle of the Spring and Autumn Period.*** There are 305 articles, divided into three parts: "Feng", "Elegance" and "Song", reflecting the social outlook of about 500 years from the beginning of the Zhou Dynasty to the late Zhou Dynasty. The Book of Songs has a great connection with our Jize.
All versions of the "Book of Songs" we see today have a common name - "Mao Shi". This is because Qin Shihuang burned books and harassed Confucians, and a large number of ancient books were burned.
At this critical moment, Mao Heng, a Jize native, risked his life and hid the Book of Songs in his family cemetery. He passed it down to his nephew Mao Chang, and the Book of Songs has been passed down to this day. In order to commemorate the great achievements of Mao Heng and Mao Chang's uncle and nephew, later generations of literati named the Book of Songs with the surname "Mao" and called it "Mao's Poetry".
