The author meticulously depicts the night scene of the spring rain, expressing his joy that the spring rain came in time. This mood was mainly due to the growth of crops in the spring rain. This was worthy of recognition for Du Fu who was able to participate in a certain amount of labor under the specific historical conditions at that time. This poem has always been regarded as a masterpiece of the poet depicting rain scenes and expressing inner joy.
"Joyful Rain on a Spring Night" is a poem written by Du Fu, a poet in the Tang Dynasty. The artistic conception of the whole poem is elegant, the connotation is quiet, and the poetic and painting scenes are integrated into one. It is a poem about rain that is vivid and unique.
The original text is as follows:
Good rain knows the season, and spring will happen.
Sneak into the night with the wind, moisturizing things silently.
The wild paths are all dark with clouds, but the river boats are only bright with fire.
Looking at the red and wet place at dawn, the flowers are heavy on the official city.
The translation is as follows:
The good rain seems to choose the right time to fall in the spring when all things emerge.
Accompanied by the gentle breeze, quietly enter the night. Finely and densely, it nourishes all things on the earth.
Thick dark clouds cover the fields and paths; little lights flicker on the fishing boats on the river.
Look at the flowers with dew tomorrow morning, Chengdu will be full of flowers.
Extended information:
This poem was written in the spring of the second year of the Yuan Dynasty (761) by Emperor Suzong of the Tang Dynasty. After a period of wandering life, Du Fu finally settled in Chengdu, Sichuan due to drought in Shaanxi Province, and began a relatively stable life in Shu. When he wrote this poem, he had settled in thatched cottage in Chengdu for two years. He personally farmed, planted vegetables and flowers, and interacted with farmers. He had a deep affection for the spring rain, so he wrote this beautiful poem describing the rain on a spring night and moistening all things.
The chin couplet writes about the "occurrence" of rain, further expressing the "goodness" of rain. Among them, the words "qian", "run" and "fine" vividly describe the "good" characteristics of rain. The reason why rain is "good" is that it is timely and "moistens things".
The rain in spring is usually accompanied by gentle wind and drizzle, nourishing all things. However there are exceptions. Sometimes, it will be accompanied by cold wind, and the rain will turn into snow due to the influence of cold air. Sometimes it rains violently, accompanied by strong winds. Although the rain at this time falls in spring, it is not a typical spring rain. It will only damage things but not "moisten them". Naturally, it will not make people "happy" and it is impossible to get "good" reviews.
Therefore, the "knowing the season" in the first couplet alone is not enough to fully express the "goodness" of rain. When the couplet wrote the typical spring rain - the drizzle accompanied by the gentle breeze, the word "good" was finally implemented. "Sneaking into the night with the wind, moistening things silently." This still uses personification. The combination of "diving into the night" and "silent" not only indicates that the rain is the drizzle accompanying the gentle wind, but also indicates that the rain intends to "moisten things" and has no intention of "please".
