Shitang, like a bright pearl, attracts many painters, photographers and teachers and students of the Academy of Fine Arts from all over the country to sketch and paint here all year round. People call Shitang Town "the city in painting". The cliffs in Shitang Town protrude from the sea, and the sea embraces cliffs, rocky mountains and stone houses, which are rugged and have a strange style. Slate street is entrenched by the sea, with narrow alleys, and the opposite eaves are like lovers who want to kiss. The beauty of the sea, the peculiar architecture and the interest of the fishing village are integrated, which is full of rich artistic atmosphere. So it attracted famous contemporary artists such as Zhang Ding, Wu Guanzhong, Shen Roujian, Yuan Yunfu, Han Yan and Lu Yangchun to come to Shitang to sketch and create. They compared Shitang with Notre Dame de Paris, a world art sketch resort, and called it Notre Dame de China.
Shitang Town is actually just a fishing village. The most attractive thing about Shitang Town is the stone-the cliff protrudes in the sea, and the sea surrounds the cliff. Stone mountain is surrounded by stone houses and stone roads, and even the roof of the fishing village is full of stones.
The most interesting is the stone house modeling, including castle style, arcade style, gatehouse style and quadrangle style. Some houses even have seven sides, and the angle of two walls is less than 40 degrees. The biggest advantage of building a house with stones is that you can sit back and relax even if the typhoon patronizes in summer.
Shitang is a veritable stone city. Seen from a distance, it looks like an ocean of stones. Most stone houses are built on steep slopes. The house bites the mountain, and the mountain supports the house, and there are ups and downs everywhere. Some of them are flat and overlapping, and some of them suddenly appear, in groups of three or five, strewn at random, in rows, as if it were a broad stone carving group. Perhaps Shitang itself is an immortal stone polished and bitten by wind and waves. It is this stone with the roughest lines, the most primitive and bare ancient stone house, which has been circulated and accumulated for years, attracting artists from all over the country to come to Shitang to sketch and collect wind.
