Wen Tianxiang's wife Ouyang was born in a scholarly family. Alas, there is no more information about her in the historical materials. In the second year of Deyou in the Southern Song Dynasty (1276), the Yuan army arrived at the gate of Lin 'an, and Wen Tianxiang was ordered to leave the city as the right phase to conduct diplomatic mediation with Bo Yan, commander-in-chief of the Yuan army. Wen Tianxiang's trip was like a moth to a fire, and he was quickly escorted to the north by the Yuan Army. On the way, Wen Tianxiang ventured to escape and returned to his hometown in Jiangxi to rebel against Yuan. Because he lost to the Yuan Army, his wife and children fell into the hands of the enemy. Wen Tianxiang, who was lucky enough to escape again, packed up the remains and continued to fight against the Yuan Army until the first year of Xiangxing (1278), when he was defeated and captured in Wuling Slope, Haifeng, Guangdong. Wen Tianxiang refused Yuan Jun's request to let him have Song Jun and Jianshan, and was taken to Dadu.
As the distance is getting closer, Wen Tianxiang's mood is getting heavier and heavier. On the one hand, it is the intimidation and inducement of Yuan people, on the other hand, it is the constant affection of his wife and children. When crossing the Huaihe River, Wen Tianxiang wrote a poem to express this kind of worry and pain in his heart: Today, dark clouds are approaching, which makes me cry like rain. I seek rule, and I can't take care of myself. A wife never looks at her husband, and a son never looks at his father. Forever and ever, this hatred is extremely eternal. The afterlife is an industry, and so is the flesh and blood. Ruthlessness is not necessarily a real hero. Wen Tianxiang was afraid that he was tired of his wife and children and gave up his ambition to die for his country. So I hope my wife and children don't think for themselves, and he can't help but give up his family. In the face of justice and affection, Wen Tianxiang made a difficult choice.
After arriving in Dadu, Wen Tianxiang was imprisoned in a low and damp hut. Kublai Khan admired his character very much, and sent someone to persuade him to surrender several times, saying that he would worship the Prime Minister as long as he was willing to come out to work for the new dynasty. Wen Tianxiang flatly refused: "I am the Prime Minister of the Song Dynasty. If I die, I can only die, and I can't live well!" Seeing that he was mighty and unyielding, Yuan people had to put him in prison, hoping to change his original intention of sacrificing his life for righteousness through time. One day, Wen Tianxiang suddenly received a letter from his daughter Liu Niang, and finally learned that his wife and daughter, who had been separated for three years and had no news, were all detained in Dadu. His wife, Ouyang Shi, has been wearing a quail suit and recites scriptures every day. Wen Tianxiang knew that his daughter's letter was obviously inspired by Yuan people, and Kublai Khan hoped to strangle his indomitable heart through the affection between husband and wife. Therefore, I wrote in my reply to my daughter: "Mo Wen, an idiot, has a plan in this life and no reason in the afterlife." I reiterated my ambition to die.
