Farewell by Don Tu Mu
[Original] Down and out, rivers and lakes carry wine, and the waist is thin and the palm is light. Ten years later, he felt the dream of Yangzhou and gained the unfortunate reputation of a brothel.
Looking back on the ten years in Yangzhou seems like a dream. In the end, I only won the reputation of a fickle lover in the Chu Museum.
[Appreciation] This poem is a lyric work of Du Mu's ten-year life in Yangzhou. Because of the political depression, the author spent ten years in Yangzhou, drinking, enjoying life and living a free life. Looking back now, it seems like a dream, but it has lost its reputation of being frivolous and ungrateful. "Ten years" is a long time, "a feeling" describes a rapid awakening, and "a dream" further expresses feelings of pain and regret. These two sentences are heavy in ease, frustrated in humor, and resentful in confession, playing with the rope in an intriguing way. Yu Biyun said that the poet "did not complain about the ruthlessness of the duckweed in the brothel, but bowed to his own misfortune. This is not a special confession, but also the poet's loyalty" ("Poetry")
