Wang Wei
Looking at the mountains from a distance,
Listen to the water silently.
Spring is gone and the flowers are still there.
People come and birds are not surprised.
There are four main verbs in this poem: look, listen, go and come.
These four verbs draw the actions of outsiders, which is in sharp contrast with the quietness in painting (color, silence, stillness, not being shocked). This little poem, which combines internal and external, contrasts dynamic and static, is full of fun, easy to understand and endless in meaning.
