The following little poem is the most classic poem of Zhu Shuzhen. It is just four sentences, profound and subtle, and quite poetic:
Autumn night
Zhu Shuzhen in the Southern Song Dynasty
The night is sleepless for a long time, and the autumn air is clear,
Candle flowers are frequently cut for the night.
It's cool to make the bed full of phoenix trees, and
the moon is bright where phoenix trees are missing.
This "Autumn Night" is a sleepless scene on an autumn night, expressing sadness. The first two sentences, "The night is long and sleepless, the autumn air is clear, and the candle flowers frequently cut for the third night", point out the solar term time at the same time, and the casual words of "The night is long and sleepless" and "The candle flowers frequently cut" also show the poet's feeling of boredom and loneliness in the long night.
The last two sentences turn to the scenery: "The bed is full of phoenix trees, and the moon is bright where phoenix trees are absent." When I make the bed, I want to sleep, but I see the phoenix trees full of moon shadows. The word "cool" seems to describe the coolness of the bed, and it seems to blame Yue Hui for "cooling" the bed, as if I were in a "cool" mood! Finally, from the moon shadow on the bed, I look at the moon shadow in the sky. The moonlight is looming among the leaves of the phoenix tree, and the light and shadow are intertwined, forming a deep and secluded artistic conception.
The whole poem is lyrical without a word, but it is full of deep feelings everywhere. A word "long" means sleepless and thoughtful, a word "frequent" means loneliness, a word "cool" is like the sadness of mood, and a word "lack" is full of the pain of thinking about women! The phrase "the moon is bright where the phoenix tree is missing" is lingering and lingering, and the reasoning seems to tell the truth of light and shade, and lyrically tells the longing for "bright" when it is missing!
