People in Hunan speak Mandarin.
In fact, the Mandarin spoken by Hunanese is not very nice. Hunanese call the Mandarin they speak plastic Mandarin because Mandarin is extremely non-standard, especially the Mandarin spoken in some places sounds different from foreigners. Sometimes when people speak Mandarin, the difference is not too big, but when many Hunan people are together, they only speak this kind of Mandarin with Hunan characteristics.
