Telling the Heart·Hibiscus, Golden Chrysanthemum and Fragrance Translation

Revealing one’s true feelings·Hibiscus, golden chrysanthemums and fragrant fragrance [Song Dynasty] Yan Shu

Hibiscus, golden chrysanthemums and fragrant fragrance. The weather is like Double Ninth Festival. The autumn scenery in the distant village is picturesque, with sparse yellow among the mangroves. The running water is light and the sky is long. The road is vast. Judgment based on high vision. When the swan geese come, there is no limit to thinking. Translation and annotation

Translation When the solar term is close to the Double Ninth Festival, hibiscus and golden chrysanthemum compete for beauty. In the countryside in the distance, the autumn colors are as beautiful as in a painting, with sparse yellows showing through the dense red leaves in the woods. So bright and cute. In the Central Plains, there is little autumn rain, no ripples in the autumn water, and it is clear and clear; the sky is high and clear, and there are no clouds in the sky. Looking up at the plains, the sky is vast and boundless, and the road ahead is unclear and uncertain. Climbing high and looking far away, I saw swan geese flying towards me, which aroused endless thoughts in my mind.

This poem is mainly about describing the scenery. The upper part points out that "the weather is like the Double Ninth Festival", and the lower part echoes it by "looking at the height". It can be seen that this poem was written by Chongjiu Denggao. The poem describes the seasons, scenery, and environment to highlight the atmosphere of missing family members during the Double Ninth Festival, and finally highlights the theme with "infinite thinking".

The words start with two sentences: "The hibiscus, golden chrysanthemum and chrysanthemum are fragrant, and the weather is close to the Double Ninth Festival." Two kinds of flowers, hibiscus and yellow chrysanthemum, are still in bloom and can compete with each other in the autumn wind to express the season before the "Double Ninth Festival". feature. Then two sentences, "The autumn scenery in the distant village is picturesque, and the red trees are sparsely yellow." Write from the close shot to the distant view, from the surroundings to the countryside in sight, and from the flowers to the trees. The most beautiful thing about the autumn scenery is the autumn leaves. Here I use the red leaves on the trees to write about them, which fully shows the characteristics of the season. There is also some "sparse yellow" color in the middle of the mangroves. The red leaves are dense, while the yellow is sparse, with alternating shades and light colors. The colors are richer and the painting is more beautiful.

Appreciation 2

This is a poem about an autumn outing to amuse oneself. Yan Shu had a magnanimous official career throughout his life, with a casual temperament, and lived a life of "never a day without feasting". After serving as an official, singing, drinking, and outings naturally became an indispensable part of his life, and it was inevitably reflected in his lyrics. This poem describes the scene and emotion of climbing up during the Double Ninth Festival.

The hibiscus (referring to lotus) and chrysanthemum in the sentence "Hibiscus, golden chrysanthemum fights against panxiang" are both flowers that bloom in autumn. The poet describes the scenery in autumn when thousands of flowers are in bloom, only hibiscus and golden chrysanthemums are blooming. This is not just a description of the scene, but also explains the seasons. The next sentence "The weather is ready for the Double Ninth Festival" further points out the solar terms. In ancient China, there was a custom of climbing on the Double Ninth Festival, which falls on September 9th of the lunar calendar. "Being a stranger in a foreign land, I miss my family members even more during festive seasons" is a famous line from Wang Wei, a great poet of the Tang Dynasty in China, in "Remembering Shandong Brothers on September 9th". The poet spoke bluntly about the Double Ninth Festival, which paved the way for the subsequent text to describe the scenery. "The autumn scenery in the distant village is picturesque, with sparse yellow among the mangroves" two sentences describe the scene from the front.
