Huang Tingjian came from Su Shi's sect and was one of the four bachelors of the Su family. He was as famous as Su Shi and was respected as the leader of Jiangxi Poetry School. He is a versatile poet, lyricist and calligrapher. But his experience was not without its ups and downs. He was demoted twice in his later years and finally died in the remote Yizhou Demotion Station in Guangxi. This song "Huanxi Sand" seems to be his work before he was demoted. The words are full of emotion and interesting. It is filled with a strong flavor of life. It expresses the leisurely and contented mood of a talented poet, lyricist and calligraphy master who loves nature.
