[Full text] Living in seclusion with few neighbors, grass trails into barren gardens. Birds are freely perched in the trees by the pool, and monks are knocking at the door.
Walking across this bridge, you can see the charming scenery of Ye Yuan, and the feet of clouds seem to be moving on the floating rocks. I will leave here for a while, but I will come back and retire with my friends on the appointed date.
There is another story about the creation of this poem: One day, Jia Dao rode a donkey on the official road of Chang 'an, the capital, and wrote a poem entitled "Li Ning lives in seclusion". There are two sentences in it: "Birds perch on trees by the pool, and monks push the moon down the door." Jia Dao felt that the word "push" in the poem was not properly used. He wants to change the word "push" to "knock", but he thinks that "knock" is a bit inappropriate, so it is better to "push". I didn't know whether to "knock" or "push", so he lay on the donkey's back, mumbling, and repeatedly pushed the door and knocked with his hand. Unconsciously, he bumped into Jing and Han Yu's guard of honor and was immediately taken to Han Yu. Han Yu said angrily to Jia Dao, "Why don't you look ahead when riding a donkey?" Jia Dao hurriedly made a gift for Han Yu, and told the story of the poem he just got on the donkey. Because he considered the words "push" and "knock", he concentrated on the unavoidable situation. Hearing this, Han Yu did not blame him, but immediately thought for a long time and said to Jia Dao, "I think it's better to knock at the door." Even in the dead of night, visiting friends and knocking at the door shows that you are a polite person! In addition, the word "knock" adds a little more noise in the dead of night. Moreover, the word' knock' reads louder. " Jia Dao nodded in praise, so he defined this poem as "Monks knocking on the moon door". He and Han Yu became friends from then on. This is the origin of "scrutiny" allusions.
