The cuckoo worships the heavens and tears again, and is alert to the endless reclamation.
This poem is one of the poems presented to Liang Qichao by Huang Zunxian in 1896 (Bingshen in the 22nd year of Guangxu). In his poem, Huang Zunxian called on people of insight to worry about the country and the people like a weeping cuckoo, and to make unremitting efforts like a sea reclamation by Jingwei to stop the division of the country. In 1894, the Sino-Japanese "Sino-Japanese War of 1894" broke out. A year later, the 47-year-old poet Huang Zunxian ended his 18-year diplomatic career and returned to China from Singapore. In the spring of this year, Huang Zunxian felt that the mountains and rivers were broken. (British occupation of Hongkong in 1842 and Japanese occupation of Taiwan Province in 1895).
