It is reported that Kang Youwei took refuge in the American Consulate in Zhifu. It is here that wonderful Changyu wine and lonely Kang Nanhai seem to form a tacit understanding and meet unexpectedly, thus giving birth to a poem written by Mr. Nanhai, expressing deep affection for Changyu wine:
Pour Changyu wine deeply and transplant Fengtai peony.
Don't write new sentences, and forget the difficulty of picking lotus.
There is no lack of prejudice against the revolution in the poem, but there are still feelings of being unwilling to be lonely, seeing through the world of mortals, getting rid of disputes and seeking liberation. I really have mixed feelings in my heart.
No, the fate between Mr. Nanhai and Changyu is not over. Ten years later (1927), Kang Youwei came to Yantai again before his death, stayed at Dongshan Vineyard Villa, and was treated by Changyu. To this end, Mr. Nanhai had another poem ten years ago:
On Changyu Wine and Transplanting Peony Flowers in Fengtai.
Read French, write new sentences, and be glad you are at home when you meet.
Perhaps this is the last poem that Mr. Nanhai left to the world before his death. In the end, he completely broke away from the Buddhist Hokkekyo and Changyu wine.
