About the author
Huangfu Ran (about 717-about 771), whose courtesy name was Maozheng, was born in Anding Chaona (now Jingchuan County, Gansu Province). A minister in the Tang Dynasty, one of the ten talented men in the Dali calendar, and a high-ranking scholar in the Jin Dynasty, after Huang Fumi. He is smart and studious, and was born in the literary category at the age of ten. He is highly regarded by Zhang Jiuling. In the fifteenth year of Tianbao's reign, he passed the first prize and was awarded the title of Wuxi County Lieutenant. In the early years of Dali, he entered the shogunate of King Yin in Henan and served successively as Supplier on the left and Buque on the right. He died in about the sixth year of Dali at the age of fifty-four. He specializes in poetry, and his poems are fresh and elegant, with a sense of wandering.
Huangfu Ran was talented and had many excellent works. He left to posterity three volumes of "Collection of Huangfu Ran's Poems", two volumes of "Complete Poems of the Tang Dynasty" containing his poems, and 7 supplements, totaling 241 poems. Most of the poems write about wandering, official travel and seclusion, and landscapes. The poetic style is elegant and elegant, and was highly praised by Gao Zhongwu.
