Thoughts after reading "White Cauliflower"

——Reading Dong Wei’s short poem "Bai Cai Hua"

To be honest, after receiving the "Paidu Poetry Journal", the first thing I did was turn to my group of poems and take a look. Did the editor make any cuts? I resent the editor's indiscriminate deletion of lines of my poetry. When I saw that not a word had been changed, I happily read other poets' poems. Soon, I read the song "Baicai Flower" written by Dong Wei.

Perhaps it’s because I haven’t read enough books, or maybe it’s because I’m a little person as poor as a cabbage. When I read such a white poem that uses vernacular to describe the life of a little person, I was very moved. Quick, let me get into the poem. After reading it once, I read it again.

The main advantage of white poetry is that all the poems are daily life terms and easy to understand. It is very suitable for us low-class people with no culture to read.

"I am a small resident. A system as big as a county town / I also sharpened my head to get in." This sentence simply states that he is an extremely small person. Even that small county town was squeezed in after all kinds of activities.

“Live an ordinary life, three meals a day / only when you get home is the most delicious.”. This sentence directly transitions to the life of little people, which is plain, simple and home-loving. Since they cannot integrate into the big society, home is the safest haven for little people.

"I have a big life / A big cabbage needs to be divided into two parts / Cut it across with a knife, no matter how big or small." From this sentence, the poet uses "Chinese cabbage", the most common, common and popular word. The simple imagery begins to enhance the extension of the poem.

“It won’t be like this after the beginning of spring / Every Chinese cabbage is pregnant, I will choose one I like / Peel it off layer by layer and let the cabbage give birth.” On the surface, this sentence means that after the beginning of spring, Chinese cabbage will grow tall sprouts, bloom yellow, white, and purple flowers, and then produce thick seeds. In fact, the poet continues to improve the extension of poetry. He combined the life of our little people with that of a big cabbage. We are also like a big cabbage, being peeled layer by layer and giving birth in constant labor pains. Every labor pain is the swaying beauty of us little people.

"I fed a baby with a bowl of water / Within a few days, she bloomed / Small yellow petals, with a small fragrance / Like my newborn daughter, small and lovable." As for white poetry, the last sentence always represents the thickness and height of the whole poem, and this one is no exception. Here, the poet uses "clear water to feed a baby" to describe the blooming of cabbage. I use the flower of cabbage to describe my weak, cute and cherished daughter. This is the highlight of the whole poem. Let the Chinese cabbage blend completely with us little people and become indistinguishable. Then the whole poem comes to an abrupt end, and the aftertaste is left to the reader. It's a pity that the author made a small mistake here: "Like my newborn daughter, she is so small and lovable." This "image" is completely redundant here, destroying the overall ductility of the poem. This is a mistake that I deplore very much and is also very obvious. "I fed a baby with a bowl of water / Within a few days, it bloomed / Small yellow petals, with a small fragrance / It was my newborn daughter, so small and adorable." If so, it would be perfect and a well-deserved masterpiece.

I have always believed that a truly white poem is to take a section of the most ordinary life and write it in the most straightforward language. But it allows different readers to read the extension of different strengths, rather than making people feel sick to their stomachs. This is also the only difference between saliva poetry and white poetry. Here, thank you Teacher Dong for your wonderful poems.

Attachment: Teacher Dong Wei’s "Cauliflower":

I am a small resident. A system as big as a county town

I also came in with a sharp head

I live an ordinary life and have three meals a day

The best time is when I get home. Tasty. I have a big life

A big cabbage needs to be divided into two portions

Cut it crosswise, no matter how big or small.

It won’t be like this after the beginning of spring

Every Chinese cabbage is pregnant, I will choose one I like

Peel off the layers layer by layer to let a cabbage give birth< /p>

I fed a baby with a bowl of water

Within a few days, it bloomed

The small yellow petals have a small fragrance

Like my newborn daughter, so small and adorable
