I thought that I went to Liangzhou, thousands of miles away, to guard the frontier fortress alone, in order to find opportunities to make contributions. Nowadays, such a military life can only be realized in dreams. Every time I wake up from a dream, I don't know where it is. Only the mink coat I used to wear has been covered with dust.
Xiongnu is still rampant beyond the Great Wall. I have already given birth to white hair and can only shed tears of resentment. Who would have expected that in this life, the heart of serving the country has been on the front line of resisting gold, while people will die of old age in Cangzhou.

This word was written by Lu You after he lived in seclusion in rural Yin Shan in his later years. In AD 1 172 (the eighth year of Song Xiaozong Trunk Road), Lu You went from Kuizhou to Nanzheng Army, an important town in the northwest frontier at that time, at the invitation of Sichuan Ambassador Wang Yan. Here, Lu You spent more than eight months in military life. These days are his most unforgettable memories.
The first two sentences of the word are derived from the word "that year", recalling the former military life, how high-spirited it is to be invited to the northwest front alone to resist the enemy.
