"The Fisherman on the River" is a five-character quatrain created by Fan Zhongyan, a writer and poet in the Northern Song Dynasty.
This little poem points out that people who come and go on the river to drink and have fun only know the delicious taste of sea bass, but they do not know or want to know the dangers and hardships of fishermen fighting against the rough waves through life and death. By reflecting the hard work of fishermen, it arouses people's attention to the sufferings of people's livelihood and reflects the poet's sympathy for the working people. The whole poem uses concise words, no fancy words, no difficult and obscure words, and no ax mark. It uses ordinary language, ordinary people and things to express extraordinary thoughts and emotions, and produces extraordinary artistic effects.
