Spring Festival Gala [Song Dynasty] Zuo Wei
The willows on the pond are Yiyi, and the people beside the willows cover their doors. The butterflies fall with the flower pieces, and the swallows fly across the water lines. After trying to make friends, Fang was surprised and laughed but said little. One spring has come to an end, and I lean on my stick to face the slanting light. Spring Translation and Notes
Translation The willows cling to the edge of the pond, and the doors and windows of the houses beside the willow trees are tightly closed. Butterflies danced gracefully along with fallen flowers, and swallows skimmed across the water, causing ripples. Wanting to invite some friends to enjoy the spring together, Fang Rumeng woke up and realized that there were fewer old friends to enjoy the spring together. The spring of the year is coming to an end again, and I am leaning on my crutches alone to face the setting sun.
Notes: Door leaf. Xianhui: refers to the west-slanting sunlight in the evening. Brief analysis
The first four sentences of this poem use scenes such as swaying willows, flying butterflies, falling petals, and swallows skimming the water to depict a distinctive late spring picture. In the last four sentences, the poet associates the scenery of late spring with life, feeling melancholy. The third couplet not only writes that the poet values ??friendship and wants to enjoy the beautiful scenery with his friends, but also uses "laughter" to contrast "surprise", forming a huge contrast and highlighting the intensity of the soul's shock. In the last couplet, the poet laments the shortness of life. Late spring is the end of a season, and the sunset is the end of a day. The heart of the old man leaning on his stick in the sunset is filled with loneliness and sadness. The ending is subtle and profound, with endless aftertaste.
