Appreciation of Pushkin’s Letter to Kane

To Kane - Pushkin (1825)

(New translation by Ge Baoquan)

I remember that wonderful moment:

< p> You are coming before my eyes,

Like a fleeting dream,

Like the embodiment of pure beauty.

I am tortured by desperate grief,

I am uneasy because of the chaotic busyness,

A gentle voice always rings in my ears,

The charming figure always hovers in my dreams.

The years pass. Waves of confused impulses

Like a storm blowing away the illusions of the past,

I forgot your gentle voice,

I also forgot your fairy-likeness face.

In the desolate countryside, in the darkness of imprisonment,

My time stretches quietly,

No gods to worship, no inspiration, < /p>

No tears, no life, no love.

My heart finally awakens again,

You appear before my eyes again,

Like a fleeting dream,

Like innocence The embodiment of beauty

The heart sprouts in ecstasy,

Everything sprouts for it:

There are revered gods, there are inspirations,

< p> There are tears, there is life, and there is love.

Belinsky said that Pushkin was "the first Russian poet to steal the belt of Venus." Kane was one of Pushkin's girlfriends, and they met for the first time in the spring of 1819 at his home in Olaninde, Petersburg. Kane is 19 years old and married to a 52-year-old general. Her stunning beauty left an unforgettable impression on the poet Pushkin.

This poem is a model of love poetry and the most beautiful one written by Pushkin. Belinsky said: "For him, Kane is an otherworldly image, an elf of pure beauty." In the world of love, she is as transparent as crystal and as white as snow, making her a holy princess from heaven.

The first three stanzas of the poem recall their meeting. Here the "primary cause effect" comes into play. The lingering love after the acquaintance is written, and the stories heard in dreams are all due to the poet's ecstatic passion, which also indirectly hints at the harshness of real life. The poet once participated in 12 The Moon Party members fought against the autocratic regime, so they wrote, "I forgot your gentle voice/and your fairy-like face."

The last three stanzas of the poem are written in reality. . The poet, who had just been released from exile, was under house arrest in a remote village. How could he not feel so lonely? At this time, Kane appeared in front of him, suddenly arousing old feelings, love revived, and his heart was beating ecstatically. Everything was lost and found again, there was a source of power of love again, my soul felt enriched, I had inspiration to write poems, and my life gave off brilliant sparks.
