History of Jinggangshan Bridge

As early as 1924, warlords scuffled. Due to the need of war, local warlords once built a pontoon bridge on the Ganjiang River from Shangxin Wharf in Ji 'an to Fu Tou Village in Hedong, which was the earliest bridge on the Ganjiang River in Ji 'an. However, the pontoon bridge was demolished the year it was built. During the Anti-Japanese War, the then Jiangxi provincial government moved to Taihe. Taihe county has become the political, economic and cultural center of Jiangxi province, with frequent personnel exchanges, which is unbearable to rely solely on Yongchang Ferry. In order to meet the traffic needs of the provincial capital in wartime, the puppet provincial government built a wooden bridge at the south gate of Taihe County in March, 1939. The bridge consists of a wooden bridge, a springboard and a pontoon. This wooden bridge is 400 meters long. Although it is convenient for people to come and go, it is very dangerous. It was washed away by the flood and has never been repaired. After liberation, the Party and the government built trunk highways from Ji 'an to Nanchang and Ji 'an to Ganjiang at 1950. Due to the barrier of Ganjiang River, passenger and freight cars from Ji 'an to Nanchang must pass Zhushan Bridge in Jishui County to reach their destination. At that time, due to the low highway grade and poor traffic capacity, Zhushanqiao ferry had low horsepower and low load capacity, and traffic was often delayed due to floods, or ferry navigation was limited due to low water level, and there were long queues, and shippers, drivers and passengers complained bitterly. Building bridges has increasingly become the unanimous voice of the broad masses of the people. At the end of 1960s, in order to develop the traffic in Ji 'an and improve the traffic conditions in Ji 'an, the local and municipal governments (formerly county-level Ji 'an, the same below) overcame all difficulties and actively prepared for the Ganjiang Bridge in Ji 'an during the turbulent period of 10. On March 27th, 1969, the bridge finally broke ground in the lower reaches of Bailuzhou. The engineers and technicians who participated in the bridge construction and the vast number of migrant workers carried forward the spirit of not being afraid of hardship and death, and overcame the interference of the Cultural Revolution, the difficulty of raw materials and the impact of natural disasters such as floods. It was completed and opened to traffic on May 1970, and was named "Jinggangshan Bridge". Jinggangshan Bridge has a total length of 1 0,090.26 meters and a deck width of 9 meters. The total investment of the project is 7.822 million yuan (current price). There are two four-corner watchtowers at each end of the bridge, decorated with red flags and scarlet letters, which read Chairman Mao's poems "Xijiangyue Jinggangshan", "Minced Yulan Guangchang Road" and "A single spark can start a prairie fire". The Jinggangshan Bridge was completed and opened to traffic, which opened the passage to the north of Ji 'an, ended the history of no bridge on Ganjiang River in Ji 'an, and realized the historical leap from floating (wooden) bridge to permanent bridge.
