Li Huanzhi, born in Hong Kong in 1919, is a composer, conductor and music theorist. In his early years, he studied in Hong Kong, Xiamen and other places. In the spring of 1936, he entered Shanghai National Music College to study composition under Professor Xiao Youmei. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, he went to Xiamen, Hong Kong and other places to engage in the anti-Japanese music movement, and collaborated with poet Pu Feng and others on a large number of anti-war songs. From 1935 to 1949, he successively composed the one-act opera music "Autumn in a Foreign Country", the children's opera music "Little Eight Road", the chorus "Ode to Youth", "Song of the Red Flag", "Victorious March" and "March for the Founding of a Democratic Republic", etc. song. From the 1950s to the 1970s, he composed more than 200 vocal works, such as the folk song chorus "Business in Production", "Osmanthus Blossoms Everywhere in August", "Chashan Ballad", "Send the Man to the Red Army", the guqin string song chorus "Su Wu", the song "New Chinese Youth March", "Socialism is Good", etc. At the same time, he has also created a large number of instrumental works: the orchestral suite "Spring Festival", the first symphony "Hero Island", the film music "The Storm", the dance drama music "The White Snake", and the large-scale vocal suite "The people of Lankao are full of ambitions and dare to teach the sun and the moon" "Change a new day" and so on. Since the late 1970s, he has composed a number of vocal works such as "Ode to the Great Wall", and has conducted in-depth research on classical choral music. He has created the piano-song chorus suite "Hu Jia Yin", the male chorus "The King of Qin Breaks the Formation Music", and the female chorus Chorus "Midnight Wu Song" and so on. He also wrote the Zheng Concerto "Miluo River Fantasia" for solo and chorus of national instrumental music.
Li Huanzhi has conducted in-depth research on composers such as Xian Xinghai, Nie Er, and Huang Zi. He once revised the score of Xian Xinghai's "Yellow River Cantata". He has published more than 300 music papers and special music reviews. His monographs include "Ethnic Folk Music Essays", "Music Creation Essays", "Composition Tutorial", etc. He has served as chairman of the Chinese Musicians Association and editor-in-chief of "Music Creation". As a chorus conductor, he has participated in performances at the World Youth Festival and visited Eastern European countries to perform. He has hosted many major music events and has had a wide range of influences.
