The story of Li Yi and Huo Xiaoyu
The legendary novel "The Biography of Huo Xiaoyu" written by Jiang Fang of the Tang Dynasty records the story of Li Yi who failed his luck and failed the prostitute Huo Xiaoyu. It is a famous piece of Tang Dynasty legend. Jiang Fang was from the Tang Xianzong period. Li Yi was still alive at that time, so it was unlikely that he would spread rumors. Huo Xiaoyu was originally the daughter of a maid in King Huo's palace. When he was fifteen years old, King Huo died. Huo Xiaoyu and her mother were both kicked out of the palace and became prostitutes. When I was sixteen, I met Li Yi. Li Yi was in his early twenties at the time. It should be before taking the system examination in the sixth year of the Dali calendar (771).
Huo Xiaoyu understood that her status could not truly be with Li Yi, so she made an agreement with Li Yi: "I am eighteen years old, and you are only twenty-two. When you are in your prime years, you still have Eight years old, a lifetime of love, wishing to end this period. "Huo Xiaoyu hopes to love Li Yi for eight years, and then let Li Yi choose a famous lady as his wife, and become a nun himself. However, after Li Yi was appointed as the chief registrar of Zheng County (today's Huaxian County, Shaanxi Province), he immediately married a woman from the Lu family of a high family, and avoided Huo Xiaoyu and refused to meet her. Huo Xiaoyu fell ill and died of lovesickness.
Li Yi was widely condemned by public opinion at the time for such heartless behavior, which also left a shadow on his heart. Books such as "The Biography of Huo Xiaoyu" and "Old Book of Tang" record that Li Yi was very worried about his wife. He would tie her up when going out, and even took off her clothes and covered her with a bathtub before she could feel relieved.
