There will be an English competition in the next few days. I would like to ask for an English poem or essay suitable for second grade students to read. five minutes

These Things Shall Never Die

By --Charles Dickens/Charles Dickens

The pure.the bright,the beautiful, everything Pure, brilliant, beautiful,

That stirred our hearts in youth, strongly shaking our young hearts,

The impulses to wordless prayer, pushing us to do The silent prayer,

The dreams of love and truth; The longing after something's lost, the cherishing of something after loss ,

The spirit's yearning cry, making the soul cry out deeply,

The striving after better hopes-

These things can never die.

The timid hand stretched forth to aid

A brother in his need,

A kindly word in grief's dark hour A kind word in grief and difficulty

That proves a friend indeed; is enough to prove the friend's sincerity;

The plea for mercy softly breathed , softly begging for mercy,

When justice threatens nigh,

The sorrow of a contrite heart-

These things shall never die.

Let nothing pass for every hand to convey warmth in the world

Must find some work to do; do your best;

Lose not a chance to waken love- Don’t miss the opportunity to waken love-----

Be firm, and just, and true; Be firm, upright, and loyal;

So shall a light that cannot fade Beam on thee from on high.

And angel voices say to thee---You will hear the voices of angels saying-----

These things shall never die.
