The creative background of "Little Pond"
"Little Pond" is included in the seventh volume of "Chengzhai Collection·Jianghu Collection". The poems recorded in this collection are basically arranged according to the time of service and season. Arrange them in order. The title of the eighth poem preceding the poem "Little Pond" is "Bingshen Suichao". "Bingshen" refers to the third year of Chunxi reign of Emperor Xiaozong of the Song Dynasty (1176), and "Suichao" refers to the first day of the first lunar month of the lunar calendar. From this, it can be seen that the poem "Xiaochi" was composed after the Spring Festival of that year. The first and second poem titles before the poem "Little Pond" are "Summer Quatrains" and "Late Spring Light Rain" respectively. It can be seen that these two poems were written in late spring and early summer.
The fifth poem after the poem "Little Pond" is titled "Fishing Snow Boats in Extreme Summer", which shows that the author was still living in the "Fishing Snow Boats" study in Jishui on the extremely hot day.
In Jishui and even in Jiangxi and Hunan, the time when lotus flowers bloom for the first time is in early May of the lunar calendar. Based on the words "shade of the tree", "little lotus" and "jianjianjiao" in the poem "Xiaochi", it can be inferred from this , the creation time of this poem should be early May in the third year of Chunxi (1176). The place of creation is in Jishui County, and the "small pond" in the title refers to the large pond directly in front of Yang Wanli's former residence, "Father and Son Houdi".
