Summary of Research on China Cotton Research Institute

Summary of research

On April 5, 20021KLOC-0, all the teachers and students of grade 5 of Hongqi Canal Avenue School participated in the investigation activities of Anyang Central Cotton Institute.

In the morning, we held the opening ceremony, and then drove to Anyang China Cotton College.

After arriving at China Cotton Institute, we first took a group photo as a souvenir for training, and then went into the academic lecture hall to watch the documentary "Struggle for 60 Years, Cast Cotton in the Sea", from which we learned about the history of China Cotton Institute, the history of cotton research for 60 years, the stories of scientists and the scientific research spirit of China Cotton Institute of "hard work, dedication, diligence in practice and innovation". Subsequently, the researcher of China Cotton Institute had face-to-face communication with students to solve doubts.

In the transgenic science exhibition hall, the staff explained the concepts of biological genes and transgene to the students in detail, and watched cartoons introducing transgenic cotton, which made it easier for them to understand transgenic cotton technology.

Finally, the students visited the cotton seedling greenhouse and the exhibition hall of scientific and technological achievements.

In the afternoon, the students visited the former site of China Cotton Research Institute, learned about its people and history, and watched modern agricultural machinery. In the experimental base of China Cotton Research Institute, students grow cotton by themselves, master cotton planting knowledge and experience the joy of labor. Finally, read the poem Cotton together.

In this research activity, we have gained a lot:

1. Increased knowledge

Some students wrote in their research experience: Through this research activity, I understand why China should vigorously develop genetically modified cotton. In the 1990s, a serious cotton bollworm disaster broke out in China, which reduced cotton production by nearly half and even stopped production in some areas. In order to protect the cotton industry in China, China Cotton Research Institute has finally developed transgenic insect-resistant cotton through unremitting efforts. At present, the planting area of insect-resistant cotton in China has accounted for 95% of the planting area of insect-resistant cotton in China.

Some students said in the exchange: I learned about the whole process of sowing, growing and picking cotton, and also learned that cotton plants can be used not only for clothes, but also for cottonseed oil, medicine, paper and fiberboard.

Step 2 broaden your horizons

Some students wrote: in the experimental greenhouse of cotton planting, we saw cotton full of trees According to the staff, this is sea island cotton, which is a perennial plant. This plant is generally 2 meters high. We often see upland cotton, which is an annual plant. The cotton produced by island cotton is the best cotton fiber in the world. The fiber is very fine and has extremely high strength. It is the top grade of textile fiber. I also saw all kinds of wild cotton. What an eye opener!

But there are also some minor shortcomings:

1. Due to the large number of students, the order of research activities is poor.

2. Students bring snacks, which leads to poor hygiene.

3. Very few students do not obey the command, and their discipline is poor, which affects the overall research effect.

4. The research content is not rich enough to arouse students' interest.
