"Looking at the Tide" by Liu Yong
The southeast is the most prosperous place in the city, and Qiantang has been prosperous since ancient times. Smoked willow painted bridges, wind curtains and green curtains, can be seen in hundreds of thousands of homes. The clouds and trees wrap around the dike (dī) and the sand, the roaring waves roll up the frost and snow, and the sky is boundless. The city is lined with pearls (jī), the households are full of Luoqi (qǐ), competing for luxury.
The overlapping lakes (yǎn) are clear and beautiful, with three autumn osmanthus and ten miles of lotus. The Qiang (qiāng) manage to clear the sky, and the watermelons sing throughout the night, playing and fishing for old lotus babies. Thousands of knights with high teeth, riding drunk, listening to flutes and drums, chanting and admiring the haze. There will be good scenery in the future, go back to Fengchi to praise it.
Translation:
The southeast is an important place, a place with beautiful lakes and mountains, and the city of Sanwu. Qiantang has been very prosperous since ancient times. There are smoky willow trees, painted bridges, wind-blocking curtains, green tents, and houses of about 100,000 people. Towering trees surround the sand embankment, roaring waves roll up waves as white as frost and snow, and natural rivers stretch endlessly. Jewels and jade are displayed in the market, and the homes are filled with silks and satins, vying for luxury.
The inner lake, the outer lake and the overlapping mountains are very delicate and beautiful, with osmanthus in autumn and lotus flowers ten miles away. Music was played cheerfully on sunny days, and at night they were rowing boats and picking water chestnuts and singing. The old men fishing and the girls picking lotuses were all smiling. Thousands of cavalry surrounded the chief, enjoying the drunkenness, listening to flutes and drums, and watching and singing about the hazy scenery. In the future, he will paint beautiful scenery and show it to people when he returns to Beijing and is promoted.
