Original text:
wood thrush
Ouyang xiu song dynasty
The cries of thousands of birds echo their own hearts, and thousands of purple flowers on the mountain are on the height of trees.
Only then did I understand that listening to the cry of the thrush locked in a golden cage is far less than singing leisurely in the forest.
Translation:
Thrush birds are full of songs, flying in the forest with their own thoughts, and freely shuttling through the branches full of red and purple mountain flowers.
Now I know: I once heard the cry of a thrush in a golden cage, which was far less than the free singing when I wandered in the forest.
This is a poem about things, which is not only different from the leisurely work about flowers and birds, but also different from the general poem about things and feelings. This is a philosophical poem with profound significance and interest. This poem expresses the poet's melancholy after being demoted by praising the free life of thrush. It shows the poet's eager desire and pursuit of free life.
Appreciate:
In Ouyang Xiu's "Thrushcross Birds", the first two sentences describe the scenery: thrush birds call one after another, one high and one low, making the colorful mountain flowers more pleasing to the eye.
The last two lyrical sentences: Seeing those birds in cages, I really envy thrush flying in the forest, free and unrestrained. What should also be known here is that Ouyang Xiu, the author, was banished to Chuzhou at this time because he was excluded from the DPRK, which shows the mood of writing this poem.
Finally, the contrast is sharp and strong.
The first two sentences, through the contrast of sound and color, describe a free and vibrant scene in the mountains: thrush birds are free, their songs are euphemistic and moving, and their living environment is so beautiful. The author's real intention in writing this way lies in the sharp contrast with the latter two sentences.
Through the comparison between "golden cage" and "mountain", the last two sentences show that "locked in the golden cage" is far less beautiful than "singing freely in the mountain" because of being detained and losing freedom.
In this way, the word "locked in a golden cage" is in sharp contrast with the scene described in the first two sentences, from which the poet expresses his deep feelings, calls for freedom, sings freedom and pursues freedom, making freedom the main theme of the whole poem. Clever use of contrast, sharp contrast and strong contrast is conducive to highlighting the theme of poetry.
