Gusao Tower is located on Baogai Mountain in shishi city, also known as "Wanshou Pagoda". Built in the Southern Song Dynasty, it has a history of more than 800 years. Gusao Tower is backed by Quanzhou Sea and faces the Taiwan Province Strait. It is also called "lock tower" because of the momentum of locking the mouth and guarding the southeast. During the Southern Song Dynasty, Quanzhou Port was one of the largest trading ports in the world. At that time, Gusao Tower became a navigation mark for maritime navigation.
There is a legend in Gusao Tower: A long time ago, there was a family at the foot of Baogai Mountain in Shishi. After their parents died, brother and sister lived alone. Later, my brother married his wife. The wife is very virtuous and good to her sister-in-law. Although a family of three lives a poor life, they live a plain life and are not short of happiness.
It was dry for a year, and there was no rain and no harvest. Since ancient times, southern Fujian has a small land and a large population. Once a disaster occurs, people can't make a living, so they go to Nanyang one after another. The two decided to stay in their hometown.
Just as my brother and the villagers were at sea, a strong wind blew and swept the boat and people into the sea.
My aunt and sister-in-law were heartbroken and committed suicide by jumping off a cliff. In memory of them, people built a tower where they jumped and named it "Gusao Tower".
I like Gusao Tower for other reasons: now Gusao Tower has become a good place for people to relax. You can see many people exercising in the morning and evening. I often go climbing with my mother on weekends. You can also eat roadside snacks when you are tired. To reach the top of the tower, there are two roads, a stone road and a slope. I prefer slopes, because walking on them is exciting.
