There are gains for all our losses.

There are balms for all our pain:

But when youth, the dream, departs

< p>It takes something from our hearts,

And it never comes again.

We are stronger, and are better,

Under manhood's sterner reign:< /p>

Still we feel that something sweet

Followed youth, with flying feet,

And will never come again.

Something beautiful is vanished ,

And we sigh for it in vain;

We behold it everywhere,

On the earth, and in the air,

But it never comes again!

Everything we lose can be compensated,

All our pain can be comforted,

But once the dreamlike youth disappears,

It takes away something beautiful from our hearts,

and never returns.

The rigors of adult life drive us,

We become stronger and more perfect,

But we still feel something sweet,

p>

It has flown away with youth,

It will never come back again.

Beautiful things have disappeared,

We sigh in vain,

Though between heaven and earth,

We can see it everywhere The charm of youth,

but it will never return!
